2018 McDaniel Volleyball Week 4: September 19-23

Starting Strong

McDaniel is 9-1 for the second straight season. Last season, the Green Terror went 1-1 on opening day at Gettysburg before reeling off 13 straight victories for a 14-1 start to the season. McDaniel was also 9-1 to start the 2014 season.

Block Party

Emma Lorenzen became the third active player to join the 100-block club last Wednesday at Salisbury. She enters the week with 104 career blocks as a sophomore. For the year, she currently ranks third in the conference at 1.00 blocks per set. Her 10 block solos is second in the conference. She has at least one block in each of the last 20 matches.

9/19: McDaniel at Gettysburg, 7:00

The Bullets (11-0, 1-0 CC) enter the week with a perfect 11-0 mark after topping Washington 3-1 in the conference opener on Saturday. Gettysburg is one of two remaining undefeated conference teams. Allie Stranick leads the attack with 101 kills while Francesca Garison has 96 knockdowns. Garison also has a team-best 25 aces. Caroline Sequeira enters the week with a conference-best 5.22 digs per set (193 total digs) while Stranick has 104 digs. The Bullets are second in the conference in digs.

9/22: McDaniel at Swarthmore, 7:00

The Garnet (8-1, 1-0 CC) enters the week off a 3-0 win at Dickinson on Saturday. Swarthmore is one of four conference teams with zero or one loss on the season. The Garnet is averaging a conference-best 12.80 kills per set and a CC-leading 2.13 blocks per set. Mehra den Braven leads the team with 124 kills while Emma Morgan-Bennett has 90 kills. Morgan-Bennett also paces the conference with 37 total blocks – 1.23 per set.

Balanced Attack

Marlowe Embry leads the team with 86 kills on the season. However, six Green Terror hitters have 39 or more kills this season. Allie Lugar is second on the team with 68 knockdowns while Makayla Patterson ranks third with 55. Emma Lorenzen has 48 kills while Anna Jezerski (44) and Lauren Wells (21) round out the group.

Record Watch

Senior Taylor Bauman is within striking distance of the Green Terror career digs record. She enters this week with 1,587 for her career and needs just 61 to match Kate Wall’s career mark.
