Supporting curriculum reform in Wales

NACE is launching a new series of live webinars and resources to support curriculum development in Wales

“Curriculum reform is long overdue in our nation and we need to continue to commit to that process… Clearly there are challenges ahead and how we can create the space for teachers and learners to engage in the preparation of the curriculum… I do not see the need to make any adjustment to the introduction of the curriculum reform. Even in these trying circumstances we need to commit ourselves to that process.”

– Kirsty Williams, Minister for Education, 14 April 2020

Underpinned by the pedagogical principles outlined in Successful Futures (2015), NACE is supporting schools’ curriculum development work over the coming months with a series of free live webinars and accompanying resources.

The series launches on 16 June with a free webinar open to all schools in Wales led by NACE Education Adviser Hilary Lowe, exploring what the pedagogical principles mean in practice and how this can support the review and development of teaching and learning policy and strategies, including approaches to assessment for learning.

This will be followed on 2 July with a webinar for all NACE members in Wales led by Dr Matthew Williams, Access Fellow at Jesus College, University of Oxford. Drawing on a mixture of theory and practice, this session will explore approaches to helping learners develop sustained effort, motivation and confident creativity – supporting the first of the Four Purposes defined for the new curriculum.

Additional live webinars and resources will be announced for the autumn term.

Alongside these webinars, schools can download a free resource outlining the pedagogical principles and their application for more able learners:

Bespoke support is also available through remote consultancy and CPD. To find out more, contact cpd@nace.co.uk
