Mighty Falcon Band Summer Newsletter 2021-2022 (Updated 6/22/21)

Hey Mighty Falcon Band!

Welcome to the 2021 marching band season! Please take a moment to read carefully over all the information in this letter. Although not entirely inclusive, as schedules do change, this will account for most of the Mighty Falcon Band’s activity this year. THIS IS YOUR LIFE!

This years’ summer band may look/feel different due to the requirements and guidelines that UIL and TEA have put in place for summer activities. These requirements can change at any moment due to the fluidity of the situation. The band directors are developing rehearsal plans and procedures in compliance with these requirements. Details will be communicated in July. Regardless of the situation, summer band will commence as scheduled on the “THIS IS YOUR LIFE!” calendar.

WE’VE GONE DIGITAL!!!

Our Mighty Falcon Band “THIS IS YOUR LIFE!” Calendar is only available digitally. Please subscribe to our Google Calendar to stay up to date with all of our band activities.

Summer Band is mandatory for all of our students as we will begin learning our fall marching show during this time.

Please make plans to attend all summer practices. Driver’s education hours, family vacations, etc., need to be planned during June. Please make plans to take the SAT, ACT, or TSI on dates that do not conflict with band activities. All band students must have a physical on file in order to participate. All students must receive a new physical for this marching season. New physicals must be dated after June 1, 2021.

Uniforms

Please check the calendar for your specific uniform fitting day. The school will provide your uniform jacket, trousers, and hat. You must provide your own black MTX marching band shoes. Tennis shoes will not be acceptable for performances. Long black athletic socks and black gloves are also required. We will order marching shoes and gloves during summer band so that we will have them for our first performance. Price will be approximately $40.00 per pair for shoes, and reflects shipping costs. Price for subsequent orders may increase due to shipping costs. Please start making preparations for these fees now because money will be due at the time of uniform fitting. Students will not be allowed to take the uniforms home, they will be checked out before every performance and turned in after every performance. Band t-shirts will be worn under the uniform at all performances.

Dress Code for Summer Band

T-shirt, shorts, baseball cap, and tennis shoes are required. This will allow for the most productive and comfortable attire possible. High-top basketball shoes are not ideal (Converse, Vans, etc.) because they do not allow the ankles to move freely as required in our marching. Sandals or flip flops are not allowed on the practice field. Please ensure that you are in compliance with Los Fresnos High School dress code (i.e. Facial hair, hair color, etc.). Please use sunscreen and eat and drink foods that will prepare you for the hot weather.

Attention Band Parents!!!

We have an active booster club. We would like to encourage all of our parents to join in the fun. We will definitely need your help. Our success depends greatly on your parental support. Meetings are scheduled on the 1st Tuesday of every month at the Los Fresnos High School Band Hall at 6:30 p.m.

Preparation for Summer Heat

Students need to go outside frequently in order to acclimate themselves to the summer heat. Marching Band is very physically demanding. Students will want to begin to improve their physical condition in preparation for summer practices. The better physical condition the students are in, the fewer heat related problems we will encounter.
