Principal's Message
Our third week of school, but our first five day week was a successful one. Students are grasping routines and engaging more in learning each day. It has been a slower transition into this school year as we have observed school expectations taking longer to settle in. Here are a few reminders to help make our school run smoother. Thank you to those of you that are already doing them.
- Absence Line: If your child is going to miss in person learning, please call the attendance line at 248-823-3501. We ask that you list your child's grade level, teacher, list the symptoms your student is experiencing, and why they are not in school. If students are not attending in-person because they are self-quarantining due to exposure outside school, you must call in and let the school know. If the school advised your student to self-quarantine, you do not need to call in. Important—we do not want anyone coming to school with any illness for any reason. Absences will NOT be counted against any student, provided the work is made up/done.
- Drop Off/ Pick Up Lane: If you use the drop off lane, please pull all the way forward and have your child exit on the right hand, curb side of the vehicle. We ask that parents stay in their car while their child exits the vehicle. If for any reason you are unable to do so, please use the parent parking lot to park and walk your child up to the building.
- No Parking: Please do not park on Forsyth when dropping off or picking up your child(ren). Please be sure to obey the traffic signs as you drop off or pick up children from Hill.
We are so excited to bring some fun back to Hill after a year of having to hold off on activities. This October the Fun Run is BACK! I want to take a moment to address the issue of having spectators at this event. I realize that there are different positions and opinions about the current state of things, however, it is my responsibility to keep this community safe and inclusive. When I agreed to have the Fun Run, I did so wanting to ensure that all families feel safe with their children participating, as it is during the school day and not optional. This means I had to make the difficult decision to limit the amount of volunteers and eliminate spectators from the event. My wish is that we can return to the days when all families are welcomed to all in school events and things return to normal.
The Fun Run is going to be so much fun for our students. I am so excited to share the pictures and videos of them from this event. Thank you so much in advance for understanding and supporting our school.

Respect is Essential for a Positive Learning Environment
When students have respect for teachers and classmates, they help create the positive academic environment all kids need in order to be successful. To promote respectful behavior:
- Discuss respect. What is it? Why is it important? How does it feel to be treated with respect or disrespect?
- Be a role model. Do what you want your child to do. If you want her to say please when asking for something, remember to say please yourself. If you want her to knock before entering your bedroom, do the same for her.
- Criticize constructively. When you need to correct your child, do it privately and respectfully. “Next time, please hold the door for Grandpa. That will make it easier for him to get through the door.”
- Notice times when your child is respectful. “You listened to the coach even when other players were joking around. I was impressed.”
