Principal's Post

2.20.19 - Happy Snow Day! February has been a very busy month at Springton Manor. The Kid's Heart Challenge, Valentine's Day, snow days and more! It's hard to keep track of it all.

Last week, our Mustangs worked on a 'Coloring Kindness' project. This program runs through the Chester County Food Bank. Students decorated boxes that will be distributed and filled with donations for seniors in need. Our Student Council helped distribute the boxes and our students worked diligently to decorate them. Some grade-levels collaborated and worked on this project together. Keep an eye out in the community - maybe you will see one of the boxes. Check out the Mustang Moments section to see pictures of our Mustangs hard at work!

I would be remiss if I didn't mention how hard the Springton Manor teachers worked on Thursday afternoon and Monday. Our teachers observed a math lesson by Greg Tang, shared instructional practices, received professional development on questioning strategies and spent hours digging into data to help drive instruction for students here at Springton Manor. Our teachers work tirelessly, reflecting and growing in order to be the best they can for our Mustangs. I am so proud to be part of such a fantastic team of educators.

I should also mention that I have a date with some duct tape and pies because our students exceeded their fundraising goal for the American Heart Association. Awesome job, Mustangs! Make sure to check out the next Mustang Monthly update...we will reveal the total amount raised and share pictures! :)

2.5.19 - Last week we ran our Kindness Challenge. Students were charged with completing various acts of kindness throughout the week. It was awesome to see our students complete the challenges set forth. From thank you cards to high-fives, every little action helped make someone feel special. We will run with the momentum from the Kindness Challenge and kick-off our Mindful Mustangs focus. Stay tuned for more information.

Even though the challenge is over, we are hopeful that our Mindful Mustangs will be the reason that someone smiles each day!

Since it is National School Counseling Week, I wanted to send a special shout-out to Ms. Amy Sullivan who has stepped into our School Counselor role this year. She has done an amazing job of supporting the staff and students at Springton Manor. Ms. Sullivan is always willing to drop what she is doing to spend time with any student that needs her support. Whether it is teaching a lesson, giving a school tour or meeting with a lunch bunch group, Ms. Sullivan always displays a positive attitude and shares encouraging words that help make Springton Manor the great school it is. Thank you for all your hard work this year!

This Week's Habit - Applying Past Knowledge to New Situations

Look Fors at Home:

• Working hard to complete any task that does not come easily.

• Taking multiple attempts to achieve a task.

• Practicing specific skills during extracurricular activities.

• Not giving up when completing homework, projects, or other assignments that may be difficult.

Keep an eye out for evidence of this habit being demonstrated at home. Identifying when you see it and situations when it could be applied will help your child understand it's importance. We look forward to a continued partnership on this Habits of Mind journey.

Help us spread the word!!

It is now time to start thinking about Kindergarten for the 2019-20 School Year

If you have, or know of someone who has, a child who will be 5 years old on or before September 1st, 2019, please call our school office to set up an appointment to register for Kindergarten at 610-942-8950. Appointments are available at Springton Manor from Monday, February 25th through Friday, March 1st. If these dates do not work for your schedule, no worry, you can set up an appointment at Central Office.

Knowing how many kindergarten students will be enrolled early helps us greatly in planning staff for the coming year. So don’t delay, call TODAY!

Social and Emotional Learning Seminar

WCASD is hosting a PA Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development seminar on social and emotional learning on Wednesday March 20, 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. See below for more information!

Cold Weather

With the temperatures dropping, make sure your child is appropriately dressed for the weather. We will continue to have outdoor recess unless the real-feel temperature drops below 25 degrees. Hats, mittens and jackets are an excellent idea for the chilly days ahead.

Educational/Family Trips

If you know that you will be submitting a request for your child to partake in an educational trip, please remember these key points from our District Policy:

  • Requests should be made at least three days prior to the trip
  • Ten days is the limit per school year (unless otherwise approved by the principal)
  • Please, please, please....list any and all educational values of the trip

While these do not cover all of the factors that go into considering approval for a trip, these are the first components that I review. Please click the link below to see the extensive list.
