Eight million tons of plastic flow into the ocean every year, and straws only make up 0.025% of that.
For most people, the straw is something you can easily do without.
And what's more, plastic straws are quite small and look a lot like food to fish and birds!
It is estimated that more than 1 million seabirds die every year after choking on a plastic straw that they mistook for food.
Drinking straws were invented 5,000 years ago, but they only became plastic as recent as the 1960's.
Previously they were made from paper, metal and plants.
Still love to use a straw?
Or you can get a funky reusable straw which is yours for life!
