Honoring our Nation's Veterans
On Wednesday I released a video statement in honor of Veterans Day. These heroes put their lives on hold and answered the call to serve our country, fighting to keep us safe and free. I believe the best way to pay tribute to our veterans is to live as free Americans who cherish the liberties and God-given rights they fought to defend. Thank you to all who have served our country.
Calling for Review of Potentially Misused Higher Education Act Funds
Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) and I wrote a letter to U.S. Government Accountability Office Controller General Gene Dodaro regarding reports of potential misuse of taxpayer funds allocated under Title VI of the Higher Education Act of 1965, which deals with international education programs. The letter follows reports of universities violating Department of Education guidelines for receiving these funds over the last year.
"We have a duty to ensure taxpayer dollars are used in a fashion that complies with the relevant laws governing such funds. Funds distributed under Title VI were not intended to advance questionable ideological priorities, especially views that often alienate specific religious minorities and fail to meet the Department's own stated standard of providing a full understanding of the regions in which the foreign language is commonly used."
President Trump Signs Order to Protect American Investors from Funding Communist Chinese Military Companies
Last week the President signed an Executive Order to protect American investors from funding Communist Chinese military companies. It has grown more apparent Communist China no longer acts like a friend of the United States, its neighbors in the Pacific, or any other country dedicated to human rights and global stability. It is a military adversary and an economic competitor whose sole purpose is making the world subservient to the Chinese Communist Party. President Trump's executive action protects our investors and ensures American dollars are not funding Chinese efforts to weaken global stability and American interests.
Remembering our Nation's Foundation of Religious Liberty
Wednesday was not only Veterans Day, but also the 400th anniversary of the signing of the Mayflower Compact. This document stated that the first colony founded in northern Virginia was for "the honor and glory of God and the advancement of the Christian faith." We should never forget the foundations of our country are built on religious liberty.
