Self Driving Cars

Glossary:

Manually: Operating a car with 100% human control

Self-Driving: Computers driving cars without human control.

Instrumentation- a way stuff is arranged

Regulatory- To regulate a piece of machinery or change it.

LiDAR System- Sensors and technology system to avoid crashes in severe weather.

Why does the car industry want to switch to self driving cars?

Are the self driving cars a safer option from driving manually? The car industry wants to switch to self driving cars to lower crash rates. According to the Auto Care Center that most car accidents are blamed on the driver. According to the Auto Insurance Center that “Some faulty mechanics can be cited as the cause for certain accidents, more often than not drivers themselves are the most dangerous things about hitting the open road”. So this means that drivers at fault for there crashes and with automated cars the crash rate should go down. This also means that with automated cars the crash rates would go down and stop deaths behind the wheel. In the article “Top 20 pros Of Self driving cars” it says that “Drunk driving incidents should decrease, because there's no designated driver needed when the car drives itself. That with automated cars it should stop the rate of drunk drivers and stop accidents with drunk driving. So this means people like Uber can send a car to your location and will need no one to drive the car.

Are the self driving cars a safer option from driving manually?

Are the self driving cars a safer option from driving manually? Yes they are a safer option because with technology advancements can make it safer on the roads. Biz Carson a senior tech reporter's article states that “ Ford Motor Company's new LiDAR system and radar and camera sensors detect when in harsh environments and will drive with care.” So this means that crash rates in places where there is snow will go down because of the LiDAR system it will drive carefully instead of fast. This also means that in rain to the system will make the car drive carefully and not unsafe. Also according to Biz Carson’s article she states “ 300,000 lives will be saved in a decade by automated cars because of safer driving.” That means that not only are they safer that they will save over 300,000 lives in a decade because they are a safer then people driving. Also shows that technology can help save lives.

What will self driving cars help achieve?

What will self driving cars help achieve? Self driving cars will help achieve lower maintenance costs on cars. In the article “ Global Automatic Self Driving Car Opportunity Market Analysis” “ Automated cars maintenance costs will go down because they have electric instead of gas or diesel.” This helps because with the cost of motor work and other things the electric motors will be cheaper and be and better alternative. Also the electric cars will not be burning carbon monoxide into the air and polluting the earth. In the article “The future of self-driving cars” “Electric cars will also last longer and drive longer than the gas or diesel alternative.” Not only will electric cars last longer than gas powered or diesel powered cars but will also drive longer on one charge of the battery. So this means people will save money on gas and will not pollute the air.

When will we see self driving cars on the road?

When will we see self driving cars on the road? The Answer is that they are already on the road today and driving well. In Rebecca J. Rosen’s article she states that “ Earlier this week the company announced that the self-driving cars have now logged some 300,000 miles and there hasn't been a single accident under computer control." This means the cars have proved themselves to be safe and can drive on there own. This also means that the cars are on the google car is still on the road today and has not crashed. Rebecca J. Rosen’s article also states that “that a self-driving car was rear-ended while stopped at a traffic light so Google must not be counting the incidents that were the fault of flawed humans”. That means that the self driving car was not in fault with any of the accidents and still has none. This also means the technology is working in the cars.

When will we see self driving cars on the road?

Will all cars eventually switch to autopilot? The answer is yes the cars have already switched to autopilot and have no accidents. According to Biz Carson’s article she states “ 300,000 lives will be saved in a decade by automated cars because of safer driving.” That means that not only are they safer that they will save over 300,000 lives in a decade because they are a safer then people driving. Also shows that technology can help save lives. “Electric cars will also last longer and drive longer than the gas or diesel alternative.” Not only will electric cars last longer than gas powered or diesel powered cars but will also drive longer on one charge of the battery. So this means people will save money on gas and will not pollute the air.
