Nuclear Power is radiant Brennan Farr Lacey Austin

This is uranium it is mined from the ground. Energy is obtained by splitting the atoms of this uranium

How It Works

Advantages

  • costs about the same amount of coal so it's not very expensive to make
  • does not produce smoke or carbon dioxide
  • produces huge amounts of energy from small amounts of fuel
  • produces small amounts of waste
  • Nuclear power is reliable
  • 500 MW capacity for 24 hours, it will generate 12,192 megawatt hours (1,000,000 watts is equal to one megawatt)

Disadvantages

  • Very dangerous
  • Must be sealed up and buried for thousands of years to allow the radioactivity to die away
  • Must be kept safe during earthquakes, flooding, and terrorists
  • a lot of money is spent on safety
  • people are getting interestingly concerned about power plants

Summary

  • Nuclear power stations use uranium as fuel
  • Sometimes called "atomic power"
  • Heat from the reactor turns water into steam, which drives turbines,
  • which drive generators
  • Doesn't cause pollution unless something goes wrong

Bonus

  • 500 MW capacity for 24 hours, it will generate 12,192 megawatt hours (1,000,000 watts is equal to one megawatt)
  • The biggest nuclear power plant is in Japan Kashiwazaki Kariwa with a net capacity of 7,965MW and seven boiling water reactors
  • On June 26, 1954, at Obninsk, Russia, the first power plant was created. it had a electrical output of 5 MW.
  • the closest nuclear power plant is at Indian Point Energy Center in Westchester
