Crisp Packet Recycling Scheme
As you may already have noticed, there is now a grey wheelie bin in the playground for recycling crisp packets. FOIS have signed the school up to the Terracycle crisp packet recycling scheme which is now the largest and fastest-growing scheme of its type in the UK. The crisps packets are exchanged for points and the points can be redeemed into financial donations. We are encouraging the children to put their empty crisp packets from lunch into the wheelie bin and would welcome donations from home as well. Please make sure your packets are completely empty before putting them in the bin and do not fold the crisp packets into triangles. Crisp multipack outer packaging is also accepted but no popcorn bags please. This is such a worthwhile cause and although we receive a cash reward, the reduction of waste is priceless. Please check out this video for more information of what happens to the crisp packets once they are recycled.
FOIS have been very busy organising a number of events in the run up to Christmas. The Sponsored Bounce that took place before half term was a huge success; we are still waiting for the last bit of sponsor money to come in and then we will inform you of the final total raised. There was a good turn out for their meeting today (6th November) but they are always on the hunt for more help so, if you can help in anyway, do drop them an email - email@example.com
We are seeking to improve our parent links and are looking forward to our new parent governor on the Academy Governance Committee, Jolene Court, coming on board. We'd like to run some evenings in the new year focussing on Curriculum, Reading and Maths to share some of our newer initiatives with you. We are also hopeful that we can get some Parent Information groups up and running to share with you the successes, and challenges within our school.
If you have any concerns regarding your child, we always encourage you to to speak to your child's class teacher in the first instance or, for more serious concerns, the Senior Leadership Team (Kirstin Howarth or Becky Hawke). We'd also like to remind you that, where there are any issues with other children in school, you raise these with us and do not approach children yourself, or deal with it in whatsapp groups. We are always happy to discuss your concerns and will do our best to resolve any issues.
Now is the time of year when potential applicants for our Reception class 2020 are asked to apply.
For those of you with children who will be 4 between 1st September 2019 and 31st August 2020, our Open Hours for the 2020 intake are shown below. Please confirm your attendance by email or by calling 01536723956 and speaking to Sue Wood or Susanna Hogan. There are two remaining Open Hours for you to choose from - all run from 11am-12pm. Dates are:
- Tuesday 26th November 2019
- Monday 13th January 2020
The invite is for the full hour. You will have chance to hear a little about our school, meet the team, have a look around and ask any questions. The Exec-Head Teacher will also talk through the admissions process and how to apply to us - slightly different given our Academy status and our VA heritage.
The hour is intended for parents only and, whilst we don't seek to be awkward, we feel it would be easier for you to come without children in tow. That said, if it's impossible, we do understand.
The closing date for applications is 15th January 2020 (5pm)
