Easter 2017 With love from le roy

Dear parents

Weekend activities

With the end of term rapidly approaching I thought it was time to write with some of our latest news. We are currently planning our house ‘innings’ which will take place on the last Tuesday and Wednesday of term. The girls will all enjoy an inflatable evening in the school pool on Tuesday evening and will take part in a number of games, egg hunts and a film, together with ‘build your own pizza’ on Wednesday evening. The total cost of the events should not exceed £10.00 so unless I hear from you to the contrary I will assume you are happy for the cost to be added to your school account.

In addition to our house tutors who assist us in the evenings we have been fortunate to have the help of our French assistante, Marine Le Mouël and one of our gap students, Shauni Phippen one evening a week and at weekends. Marine has been treating the girls to some delicious speciality cakes from Brittany as well as enlightening them about her home region and teaching some traditional Breton dances, as well as an opportunity to practise their French. Shauni has been putting her sporting talents to good use and involving all the boarders in some fun new games in the sports hall on a Tuesday evening. We are also fortunate this term to welcome Miss Kelly Drew as a new house tutor on a Monday evening. The girls will love having Miss Drew in house, together with Mrs Burley on a Thursday, where she continues to help them (and Miss Tait) with their knitting.

The girls have had the most fantastically varied, successful and busy of terms. Highlights have included: the wonderful performance of Oliver! In collaboration with Winchester College, terrific performances all round but particularly from Selma, Tobi and Grace in the chorus, and the wonderful Sophia as Oliver. Ayomide has had further success in her athletics, most recently being nominated for an award at Basingstoke Athletics Club- she even met the mayor! Kirstie won the Intermediate House Music Competition with her beautiful recorder playing. We have also had swimming success for Ana, Jessie, Tobi, Alex and Phoebe. The girls have all been busy working through their character development programme, where they have enjoyed a variety of activities to further their already wonderful characters, focussing on resilience, being kind and accepting when they have made a mistake. You will also be pleased to know that the girls are now fully adept at baking, changing their bed sheets and doing their own laundry!

With the end of term comes the inevitable clearing out and packing so we should be grateful if weekly boarders could take home all surplus items before the end of term. Everyone will need a large suitcase here by the penultimate week of term as all wardrobes and chests of drawers must be emptied completely. Overseas full boarders should already have a sizeable suitcase in house and may leave belongings in our storeroom during the Easter holiday.

Happy birthday Annabelle

Our annual event ‘Fund-raising Friday’ will be taking place on the last afternoon of term (31st March) so hopefully your daughters will still have some pocket money left in order to enjoy the fun of purchasing as well as selling!

Happy birthday Phoebe!

School finishes at the usual time at the end of term (Friday 31st March) so your daughters, together with their innumerable bags, can be collected from 16.20 and ideally by 18.00. There will be a bus to London as usual but it may prove easier for your daughter if she is collected from Le Roy. It would be most helpful if you could let her know what arrangements you are making.

Character Development

Boarders are due back for the start of the summer term on Sunday 23rd April, the house will be open from 16.00 and supper served at 18.00. Please note, that the following weekend (28th April-1st May) is an exeat weekend and all boarding houses will be closed for the entire weekend, until 18.00 on Monday evening.

Masked Party

As ever, thank you all for your on-going support for Le Roy and our very best wishes to you all for a most enjoyable Easter break.
