Asymmetrical Balance

This dress has asymmetrical balance because of the black triangle on one side of the dress. This gives the dress a different weight on each side of the axis. This is also called informal balance.

Radial Balance by Radiation

This dress has radial balance because the center of the dress is the end of neckline. The end of the neckline is the base for the radial movement that is moving outward from it. The rest of the pieces of the dress are going towards that focal point.

Approximate Symmetry

This dress has approximate symmetry because there a small differences in the arrangement. The shoulders and sleeves give it a symmetrical balance but the slits are cut in for a slight change. This is how approximate symmetry works with small changes.

Emphasis created by Line

This outfit creates emphasis because of the black line going down the front. It is the main focal point of the outfit.

Emphasis created by Shape

This dress created an emphasis on shape because of the skirt. It makes the model look taller and skinnier. It is tucked at the waist line to give this illusion.

Emphasis created by Pattern

This pattern gives emphasis because it uses lines to create repetition. The body suit underneath gives the emphasis of placement. This lets the pattern stand out a little more.

Rhythm created by Alternation of Color

This shirt gives an alternation of color because of the alternating stripes. The black and white are opposite colors, making both of sequence stand out more.

This dress gives concentricity with the radiation of the dress. It starts on the left side of the hip and moves outward. This gives it rhythm.

Rhythm created by Gradation of Motif/Pattern

This shirt gives an all-over patter and gradation. Your eye moves from motif to motif on the top. This is a good example of motif and pattern.

Rhythm created by Sequencing

The stripes on the shirt are sequencing. The black white alternate an give it a certain rhythm. The sequencing are repeating and going vertically.

Scale created by a Change in Motif/Pattern size

This dress gives scale by different motifs that move your eye all over the dress. The pattern also gives the model a certain size of being smaller and taller.

This shirt gives a change in structural details. The hem length has been cut short to give it a different change in scale for structural details

Unity created by Structural Details in close Proximity

The structural details on this jacket give it unity. The proximity of the pattern groups it together making it one. This is how structural details and proximity is presented.

Unity created by Similarity in Decorative Details

This outfit gives unity by similarity in decorative details. The similarity is that it is all black and the decorative details are the small white slits that give it unity.

Unity created by Closure

This dress created unity in closure because of the missing pieces. The top half is missing the black part of the zebra print but our brain can still put together that it is a zebra print pattern. This gives us closure.
