Thanks to the amazing support in the past, this is the 5th year for SHRED, and unlike past years, because of the tremendous difference the community has made not only demonstrated by their attendance but donations as well, SHRED was able to host FOUR candidates and their families to receive much needed assistance.
...every cent goes towards helping those families with medical bills.
Each candidate were diagnosed at childhood with lifetime ailing illnesses, but what makes this event so great is not just the people supporting such a great cause, but watching each candidate play games and be excited by the social opportunity available to them.
At the event, we got to spend some time with Luke and his family, first, thanking them for all they do for our club, and secondly, allowing us to be a part of their lives. It was truly a rewarding experience and something we hope to continue to be a part of in the future.
Of course, we didn't come empty handed. We donated a GUSC Official gift basket with some quality GUSC gear!
We're talking hoodies, t-shirts, and so much awesome swag to boot.
You truly meet some amazing people, and these candidates are nothing short of awesome. First, you get to meet Gabe and Luke, the first two participants in the SHRED event. Then thanks to the generosity of you all, we were able to invite Trey and his family from New York, and Josh from California.

It was truly a remarkable sight, being able to see four individuals breaking free from this label that to some may have seemed like a trap, but for them, just another obstacle for them to climb, and they did so with style.
Regardless, at the end of the day, Luke & Gabe taught us what true joy really is, not letting their condition define them. Those smiles were real, as were their hearts and we could not have been any happier to participate in SHRED.
"When I think of GUSC, I believe it starts with our appreciation and outreach within the community, and to be a part of this event certainly brought clarity to that sentiment."
