Pastor's Message: "State of the Church"

Pastor Garry Genser

Our Vienna Church family is alive and well, despite the challenges that we are facing with the pandemic. Our Church School, Pathfinder Club, Grow Groups, Prayer Ministries, Sabbath School and Worship Services are all moving forward in our mission of Reaching out In Love to Make Disciples for Jesus Christ.

Most of us are ready for the Pandemic to be over, but just like the church, are managing. Some our struggling with loneliness and insecurity about their futures. The members of the Prayer Team pray for the church and school constantly as do many others, I am sure. Your pastors are here for you and enjoy talking and praying with many of you throughout the week.

The Mid Week Lift Zoom meetings are a great encouragement for some. This week we prayed a special prayer that more people would take advancement of the prayer and fellowship. The zoom link is:

My cell phone number for talking and texting is 571 294 4863. I am available 7 days a week, day or night to pray or visit with you.

Paul, who suffered more than any of us are ever likely to, wrote these encouraging words:

For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

Know that you are loved and cared for. Don’t let yourself feel too isolated. Reach out and connect with God and your brothers and sisters!

Vienna Church’s Financial Standing – Please Support Local Church Budget:

Our outgoing church Treasurer, Luis Alvarez, just sent me the projection that at our present rate of receiving income for church expenses our bank account will be below zero within six months. The positive is that we have been able to keep our head above water so far through this pandemic. The bad news is that our expenses have already been cut very close to the bone and that without an increase in giving towards our local church budget, further, more painful cuts will have to be made.

Please consider going to viennasda.org and clicking on “online giving” in the menu. FYI Tithing doesn’t go into our local church budget, but is sent on to mostly pay church pastors and teachers throughout the world.

May God richly bless you as you care for your local church by giving generously to the local church budget.

Enrollment in Children’s Sabbath School Divisions

Over the months, we’ve been unable to meet in person for children’s Sabbath Schools. Our teachers have missed the kids. We know there have been many changes—births, birthdays, new school grades—and we’ve missed being part of these milestones. To assist Sabbath School teachers in connecting with our children and planning for future programs, we’re inviting parents to use a new enrollment form to enroll children from birth to fourteen years old in a Vienna Sabbath School division. Thank you!!

You are invited to the Ignite worship experience, Fridays at 7pm. Ignite is a weekly evening worship experience led, shaped and created by our youth and young adults, yet everyone is invited! The purpose of Ignite is to spark a movement of young disciple makers.

Ignite is NOT merely for spectating, but has been designed for active engagement and interaction. You are strongly encouraged to chat with our chat hosts and each other throughout the Ignite experience. We are fostering loving online community.

Click the link below to participate:

Each week's Ignite will usually feature...

  • Younger Generation Praise Team.
  • Ignite Stories, a Bible Game or Special Media Presentation.
  • A message from a guest speaker or Pr. CJ Cousins.
  • Live one-on-one prayer.
  • Group chat and conversation.
  • Direct chat with Hosts.
  • And much more!

See you there and remember to invite a friend!

Grow Groups

Grow Groups will launch the Fall Session on Sunday, September 13 and run through November 21. Here at Vienna we do life together by joining or starting a Grow Group. Gather together weekly or twice a month with people from your church, neighborhood, school, work, etc. Being apart of a Grow Group is life changing, enriching and you’ll never be the same again. In light of the COVID-19 stay-at-home executive order, our Grow Groups will be conducted this semester online via Zoom.

Online Giving

If we would faithfully bring God our tithes and offerings, His treasury would be filled.

Jesus taught that the value of the gift is estimated not by the amount, but by the proportion that is given and the motive that actuates the giver.

“He which soweth sparingly, he shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give, not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.” Acts 20:35; 2 Corinthians 9:6,7.

Here is an interesting video on tithing

Tithe and offerings may be submitted on the church’s secure website, Togethernet at https://viennasda.ccbchurch.com/index.php login, and click on “Give”! You may choose from several giving designations.

Vienna’s Prayer Ministry

This year, 2020, we are intentionally praying for our church families. Specifically, we are praying for our families to have a stronger walk with Christ, as this will also impact their bond with each other. Each week, we will include a new list of families in the Prayer Praises & Requests section of the church bulletin. We ask We ask that our entire church body pray for these families each week.
