At the end of a busy week in the Greenfields in-school and online community, that started with a snow day and ended with Spring sunshine, it is looking likely that schools will not begin to welcome the majority of pupils back until we are well into Spring. The Prime Minister announced that the next review of when children will all return will be on the 8th March, and the Education Secretary has said that schools will be given two weeks of notice to prepare if it is decided then that community transmission is reduced enough. Please keep an eye on the news to keep yourself updated.
This means that online learning will be continuing for at least the next 6 weeks. We have made some tweaks, based on your feedback from the online survey and are also now asking for all children from Nursery to Year 6 log in using their Greenfields email addresses and password. If you are encountering problems accessing Online Remote Education, please visit www.parent.dret.cloud for help and support guides, and of course, ask your child’s teacher during their weekly calls home.
Also, in light of this extended period of remote education, we have sent out an Online Home-School Agreement that sets out what we are offering and what you can expect from us, and what you and your child can do to engage as well as you can. This is an extension to the Home-School Agreement that you have all signed when your child joined the school. The link is below on this Newsletter too and in a separate message to you. Please have a good read of it and sign for your family. If you would like a paper copy, please let the office know and we will post it out to you.
Finally, an ‘on this day in history’ moment: on this day, last year, we were delighted and humbled to have just received our ‘outstanding’ Ofsted grade after a full two days of inspection. Although the year following this has not been without its considerable challenges, I know that all of us at Greenfields Primary School and Nursery remain committed to providing its community with our absolute best at all times.
Every Tuesday, Year 6 enjoy doing a ‘just write’ where they watch a video clip and just write in whatever style they choose afterwards. They are loving this! They have been writing songs, adverts, poems and stories. Denis sent a picture with his fantastically creative cartoon strip.
Shape Hunt? Ask reception
The Reception children have been learning about 2D shapes , they have been busy drawing and labelling shapes . They went on a shape hunt in their homes , super shape hunting.
The Year 6 team have been BOWLED OVER by the dedication and enthusiasm the children are all showing towards their live lessons. Most children have been taking part in all four live lesson every day. We are so impressed and would like to thank all of the incredible children and their parents for being such superstars!
Here is Daisy with the postcard that was sent her to celebrate her incredible work. Who will be next to receive one?
Dinosaurs on live learning
The reception children had a great live meeting today , they were very lucky to join Darwin from Dragonflies class and his dad at Jurassic grill . Darwin and his dad showed all of the class the different dinosaurs at the grill and the class were impressed when they saw some fossils. They loved seeing fossilised dinosaur poo!!!!! . Thank you to Darwin and his family for a great live meeting.
Choose and Chill
Year 2 were so happy to see Choose and Chill returning! The School Bubble celebrated this with doughnuts and really enjoyed watching Mrs Wensley's story! There's a link on everyone's Google Classroom so you can watch the other teachers' stories in between.
Fairy dust making
Year 2 have been learning all about fairies this week! They have learnt about using time openers and imperative verbs in instructions and why these are important. They have also been learning how to make fairy dust. On Thursday the School Bubble made awesome fairy doors, hunted for smelly trolls and followed instructions in order to make their own dust. They even made magical wishes and scattered the dust around the playground!
This week Reception took their learning into the outside area: they used food colouring and water to create pieces of art in the snow. The children enjoyed exploring mixing the different colours to see what new colours could be made.
The weather is looking brighter, and Spring is definitely in the air! Whether it snows this weekend, or the sun shines, it’s time to take part in some ‘citizen science’ with the RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch. Use the link below to find out how you can take part. There’s lots of information that will help you identify common garden birds and find out all about them.

Home school agreement
As we become more used to our online way of working, we thought it was important to add to our home/school agreement (that you signed when your child started at Greenfields) to include online learning. Please follow the link below to complete this short addition relating to online learning with Greenfields Primary School and Nursery.
Class Code and Google Link
Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos this Friday in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
