The Briefing is moving to Fridays
Heads up, Mountain View! To help ensure we incorporate as much of the week's updates as possible, we are officially moving The Briefing to Fridays. Check your inboxes at the end of every week to see the latest updates from us.
Temporary Public WiFi Disruption
The free public outdoor WiFi, MVwifi, along Mountain View’s downtown corridor, primarily Castro Street, will be temporarily unavailable from Tuesday, Oct. 27 through Thursday, Oct. 29. That’s due to the need to disconnect the network equipment while crews repair the roof on City Hall. The City appreciates the public’s patience during this temporary inconvenience.
The City has partnered with Google in providing the free service in publicly accessible areas to reduce the digital divide in the city.
Where to Vote
Need to know where and how to vote? Ballot dropboxes have already been deployed and voting centers open on October 31. Learn more through the County's website, make a plan, and make your voice heard.

Free COVID-19 Testing On Wednesday
The City of Mountain View is partnering with the El Camino Hospital District to offer COVID-19 testing in our community. Test eligibility includes anyone who ”lives, works or goes to school” in Mountain View. Testing is by appointment only, offered on Wednesday, October 28 inside of Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts Rehearsal Studio located at 500 Castro Street (entrance located between Library and back of the MVCPA) from 8:30 a.m. – 4:20 p.m.
As a reminder, this testing site is not designed to test individuals with symptoms of COVID-19. Individuals with symptoms should contact their healthcare provider for evaluation and testing.
County, State, and Federal Updates
The CDC has updated its guidelines around COVID-19 close contact and contact tracing. The agency has refined its guidelines to say that a total of 15 minutes or more — shorter but repeated contacts that add up to 15 minutes over a 24-hour period -- increases exposure risk to the coronavirus.
Free Flu Shots
Santa Clara County has committed to providing flu shots, free of charge, to anyone who may need them.
Every Saturday through the middle of December, anyone can drive, bike, or walk up to the clinic, which will be hosted at the Santa Clara County Fairgrounds, to receive their inoculation.
No appointment needed. More information can be found here.
Stay-at-Home Resources
Halloween and Dia de los Muertos are upon us! Here are some guidelines from the State of California on how to celebrate the beloved holidays safely during the pandemic.
COVID-19 Updates
You may notice that the number of new cases from day to day might not always add up to the cumulative total of cases. This is because the county’s quality control measures and those of the California Department of Public Health may determine a need for reclassification of some cases. These small adjustments are due to changes in results from inconclusive or pending, or duplications in results, and are normal occurrences in the day-to-day collection of complicated data.
