JUST THE WAY YOU ARE

BRUNO MARS

Oh, her eyes, her eyes make the stars look like they're not shinin'

Her hair, her hair falls perfectly without her tryin'

She's so beautiful

And I tell her every day

Yeah, I know, I know when I compliment her, she won't believe me

And it's so, it's so sad to think that she don't see what I see

But every time she asks me, "Do I look okay?"

I say

When I see your face

There's not a thing that I would change

'Cause you're amazing just the way you are

And when you smile

The whole world stops and stares for awhile

'Cause girl, you're amazing just the way you are

Yeah, her lips, her lips, I could kiss them all day if she'd let me

Her laugh her laugh, she hates, but I think it's so sexy

She's so beautiful

And I tell her every day

Oh, you know, you know, you know I'd never ask you to change

If perfect's what you're searching for, then just stay the same

So don't even bother asking if you look okay

You know I'll say

When I see your face

There's not a thing that I would change

'Cause you're amazing just the way you are

And when you smile

The whole world stops and stares for awhile

'Cause girl, you're amazing just the way you are

The way you are

The way you are

Girl, you're amazing just the way you are

When I see your face

There's not a thing that I would change

'Cause you're amazing just the way you are

And when you smile

The whole world stops and stares for awhile

'Cause girl, you're amazing just the way you are, yeah

"Beautiful Girl"

Written by Ari Levine, Bruno Mars, Khalil Walton, Khari Cain, Peter Gene Hernandez, Philip Lawrence • Copyright © Sony/ATV Music Publishing LLC, Warner/Chappell Music, Inc, Universal Music Publishing Group, Round Hill Music Big Loud Songs

An example of a hyperbole is when Bruno Mars says, "And when you smile, the whole world stops and stares for awhile..." he's saying that when he sees her smile he just thinks that everybody stops amazed at how beautiful she is. But in reality he is just standing there complimenting her beauty, the whole world doesn't actually stop and stand for a while.

An example of a simile is when Bruno Mars states in his song,"Oh, her eyes, her eyes make the stars look like they're not shinin'..." This is an example of a simile because he's comparing how bright her eyes are to how bright stars are. He's saying that her eyes are brighter than stars, but in reality he's just saying her eyes are pretty.

ROAR

KATY PERRY

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath

Scared to rock the boat and make a mess

So I sat quietly

Agreed politely

I guess that I forgot I had a choice

I let you push me past the breaking point

I stood for nothing

So I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up

Already brushing off the dust

You hear my voice, You hear that sound

Like thunder gonna shake the ground

You held me down, but I got up

Get ready 'cause I've had enough

I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter,

dancing through the fire

Cause I am a champion and

You're gonna hear me ROAR

Louder, louder than a lion

Cause I am a champion and

You're gonna hear me ROAR

Oh oh oh oh oh oh

You're gonna hear me roar

Now I'm floating like a butterfly

Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes

I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up

Already brushing off the dust

You hear my voice, You hear that sound

Like thunder gonna shake the ground

You held me down, but I got up

Get ready 'cause I've had enough

I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter,

dancing through the fire

Cause I am a champion and

You're gonna hear me ROAR

Louder, louder than a lion

Cause I am a champion and

You're gonna hear me ROAR

Oh oh oh oh oh oh

You're gonna hear me roar

Roar-or, roar-or, roar-or

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter,

dancing through the fire

Cause I am a champion and

You're gonna hear me ROAR

Louder, louder than a lion

Cause I am a champion and

You're gonna hear me ROAR

Oh oh oh oh oh oh

You're gonna hear me roar

An example of a simile is when Katy Perry says, "Like thunder gonna shake the ground..." she's comparing her strength to thunder.

An example of a metaphor is when Katy Perry says, "Louder, louder than a lion..." she's comparing her voice to a lion's roar, loud and strong.

Stereo Hearts

Gym Class Heroes

My heart's a stereo

It beats for you, so listen close

Hear my thoughts in every no-o-o-te

Make me your radio

And turn me up when you feel low

This melody was meant for you

Just sing along to my stereo

[Travie McCoy:]

Gym Class Heroes baby!

If I was just another dusty record on the shelf

Would you blow me off and play me like everybody else?

If I asked you to scratch my back, could you manage that?

Like yea [scratched], check it Travie, I can handle that

Furthermore, I apologize for any skipping tracks

It's just the last girl that played me left a couple cracks

I used to used to used to, now I'm over that

'Cause holding grudges over love is ancient artifacts

If I could only find a note to make you understand

I'd sing it softly in your ear and grab you by the hand

Just keep it stuck inside your head, like your favorite tune

And know my heart's a stereo that only plays for you

[Chorus:]

My heart's a stereo

It beats for you, so listen close

Hear my thoughts in every no-o-o-te

Make me your radio

And turn me up when you feel low

This melody was meant for you

Just sing along to my stereo

Oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh to my stereo

Oh oh oh oh to sing along to my stereo

[Travie McCoy:]

Let's go!

If I was an old-school fifty pound boombox (remember them?)

Would you hold me on your shoulder wherever you walk

Would you turn my volume up in front of the cops (turn it up)

And crank it higher everytime they told you to stop

And all I ask is that you don't get mad at me

When you have to purchase mad D batteries

Appreciate every mixtape your friends make

You never know we come and go like on the interstate

I think I finally found a note to make you understand

If you can hit it, sing along and take me by the hand

Just keep me stuck inside your head, like your favorite tune

You know my heart's a stereo that only plays for you

[Chorus:]

My heart's a stereo

It beats for you, so listen close

Hear my thoughts in every no-o-o-te

Make me your radio

Turn me up when you feel low

This melody was meant for you

Just sing along to my stereo

Oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh to my stereo

Oh oh oh oh to sing along to my stereo

[Bridge:]

I only pray you'll never leave me behind (never leave me)

Because good music can be so hard to find (so hard to find)

I take your hand and hold it closer to mine

Thought love was dead, but now you're changing my mind

[Chorus:]

My heart's a stereo

It beats for you, so listen close

Hear my thoughts in every no-o-o-te

Make me your radio

Turn me up when you feel low

This melody was meant for you

Just sing along to my stereo

Oh oh oh oh, oh oh oh oh to my stereo

Oh oh oh oh (Gym Class Heroes baby!) to sing along to my stereo

Yeah

Boombox

An example of figurative language is "my heart's a stereo". This is a metaphor. This is a metaphor because it is comparing his heart to a stereo without using like or as. In this metaphor what he means by my hearts a stereo is that his heart is beating just as loud as a stereo plays music, showing his love for someone.

The second example of figurative language is when he says "Hear my thoughts in every no-o-o-te". This example is of personification, because he's saying that you can hear his thoughts in music notes. Hearing thoughts in music notes is not possible therefore being personification.

Winter

Bailey Johnson

I look out my window and I see snow

The snow in my yard looks like white frosting on a cake

The snow in my yard is as tall as a mountain

My family and I go outside and play on this snowy day

Snowy Day

One of the two similes in my poem is when I state, "The snow in my yard looks like white frosting on a cake". By this I mean that the snow is flat and perfectly white, just like how you would see frosting on a regular cake.

The second similes is when I state, "The snow in my yard is as tall as a mountain". By this I mean the snow could have been at knee level which is a lot of snow. This example could also be a hyperbole because of the tall as a mountain part.
