More than just lights

Electricity powers our quality of life, and energy demand has increased across the board. The average U.S. household uses more air conditioning, appliances, and consumer electronics than ever before. Most homes contain 10 or more internet-connected devices—from laptops and thermostats to TVs and vacuum cleaners!

Typically, when demand goes up for a commodity, price follows the same trend. However, that’s not true with electricity. Over the past five years, the cost of rent has increased by 3.4 percent, medical care increased 2.8 percent, and education increased 2.2 percent. However, the cost of electricity only increased one percent. Considering all the ways we depend on electricity, it remains a great value.

At Central Georgia EMC (CGEMC), part of our mission is to pass this value to our members. For the last nine years, our rates have remained among the lowest in the state. And we will keep working hard to power your life reliably and affordably. After all, electricity is about more than lights... it's about living!

Fiber-to-the-home update

The future powered by fiber is just a few months away for some Central Georgia EMC members in Monroe County.

Central Georgia EMC and Conexon Connect continue to make rapid progress building out our fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network. We are on track to connect the first members before Thanksgiving. The first zone to be connected in Monroe County includes Juliette Commons, Forsyth Landing, Adamsville Park, Chriswood, Bellewood, and surrounding areas.

Over the next several weeks, we will be finalizing the fiber construction and testing our network, equipment, and processes to ensure the best possible experience for members once the zone opens.

As we work toward completing the construction in Monroe County, we will routinely announce more specific neighborhood details associated with each zone. Our goal is to have service availability for all Monroe County members by mid-2022.

In other areas of the CGEMC territory, you will begin to see crews performing make-ready work—evaluating and sometimes changing out poles to prepare the infrastructure to accommodate the extra load of fiber.

If you haven’t done so already, pre-register today for high-speed internet. You’ll be the first to know when service will be available to your home or business.

Effective with October 1, 2021, billings, Central Georgia EMC’s monthly service charge for residential accounts will change from $34 to $37. The monthly charge for general service and commercial accounts will also increase by $3. This change is part of a continuous effort to align charges with operational and wholesale power costs.

The service charge covers portions of costs associated with account administration, power distribution, capacity, and other related expenses. Despite this adjustment, Central Georgia EMC remains one of the lowest-cost electric providers in all of Georgia.
