Mad Hatter character description
The Mad Hatter is one of the members of the Mad Tea Party. He occasionally is very rude and provokes Alice during the tea party. When he is called upon by the Queen, he is very nervous and frightened. Although everybody calls him ‘the Mad Hatter’, Lewis Carroll never actually called him that in the story. He just referred to him as ‘the Hatter’. The Hatter and his tea party friend, the March Hare, are initially referred to as "both mad" by the distinctive Cheshire Cat. The first mention of both characters occurs in the sixth chapter of Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, titled "Pig and Pepper", in a conversation between the child protagonist Alice and the Cheshire Cat.
The Queen of Hearts appears in chapters 8, 9, 11 and 12 from “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”. She appears as the primary antagonist. She is a foul-tempered monarch, that Carroll himself describes as "a blind fury", and who is quick to give death sentences at the slightest offense. Her most famous line, one which she states often, is "Off with their heads!" She is one of the playing card characters Alice meets when she is finally able to enter the beautiful garden through the door in the hallway. She is violent, authoritative and dominant . She likes to play croquet with live flamingoes and hedgehogs as mallets and balls (but only when she wins, and by her own rules) .
