Juan Ponce de León founded the first Spanish settlement on the island on August 8th, 1508. The settlement was called Caparra. Eventually traders and other visitors started to refer to the island as Puerto Rico.

Yadier Molina was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico, in 1982. He is a catcher for the St Louis Cardinals.
