Name: Jane Patrono
Board Position: Board Member, Development Committee Member
I taught school when I was first married and I have had many years of interest in children. I did many volunteer jobs through my years; I helped start the Eisenhower School fair and ran it for 8 years and I served 8 years on the YWCA Board where we started the “nearly new” sale. Helping to bring the “Up with People” show to the community got me interested in musical performances. I also helped bring an acting, signing, and dancing convention to Gettysburg College. So, when they asked me to be a Board Member at GCT, I felt it was something I could contribute to the community. I love seeing the kids blossom when they get on the stage. The people involved at GCT are like a big family, very open and friendly. I can look back and see that my passion has always been oriented toward kids and my love of musicals.
I support Gettysburg Community Theatre because the theatre allows the arts to be brought to a small community and allows access to plays and musicals that might not be seen or affordable otherwise. It is a real gem to see the magic being performed on the GCT stage. It is another outlet for kids to experience growth in themselves.
If I had to choose my favorite shows this year, I guess I would say CATS! and Beauty and the Beast. The show CATS! had the kids so involved. The show, the music, and the costumes brought so much excitement to the theatre! Beauty and the Beast was magical with the romantic story and the kids all relating to their parts.
GCT’s Penguin Project is an inspiration for everyone that sees these kids with disabilities believe in themselves. To see these kids with disabilities and their peer-mentors working together as a family is truly amazing; what a wonderful and emotional experience!
As far as seniors that “just want to have fun,”, these local seniors through GCT’s Senior Citizen Outreach have a platform in which they can express themselves and have a good time!
In 10 years the Gettysburg Community Theatre has evolved into a beloved and delightful addition to Gettysburg. A big shout out to Chad-Alan Carr, the musicians, actors, volunteers, past board members, employees, and all of our patrons and sponsors. Congratulations on 10 years!
