Sputnik 1
The USSR Space Program's first successful launch was October 4th 1957 with the launch of Sputnik 1. Which was an artificial satellite that was put on a modified R-7 two-stage ICBM rocket. This was launched from Tyuratam and officially started the space race between the Soviet Union and the United States
