A Player to Remember by: Arya Samimi

A hero can be many different things and can have many unique traits. My definition of a hero does not just involve courage, strength, and selflessness. I believe a hero is someone who exceeds expectations, goes above and beyond, and achieves greatly. A hero is also someone you can look up to and admire for their great achievements and actions. Based on these criterias I have chosen Andre Agassi to be my hero since I look up to him in many ways.

Andre Aggassi is a retired professional tennis player and formal number one player in the world. His biography, Open was a huge inspiration for me and really caught my attention. After reading and understanding the challenges and achievements of Agassi I realized that I look up to him and think of him as my hero.

Agassi once said, "I've been motivated by overcoming challenges and overcoming the hurdles and obstacles that face me. There still is plenty out there to get motivated by." What makes Agassi my hero is not just his amazing achievements. He did not have an easy life and he had to overcome many challenges to become what he is today. Agassi was abused by his father and forced into hitting thousands of balls each day. Agassi was motivated by overcoming these challenges and I have been motivated by his outstanding achievements and accomplishments.

Another quote by Agassi I found inspiring was, "Nothing can substitute for just plain hard work. I had to put in the time to get back. And it was a grind. It meant training and sweating every day. But I was completely committed to working out to prove myself that I still could do it." I found this particular quote a huge inspiration for younger tennis players like myself to realize that the answer to improvement and success in life is plain hard work and determination. Agassi is not just my hero because he was a formal number one player. He inspired me to work harder and commit if I wanted to improve my game.

Ever since I read Agassi's biography I have deeply admired him as a person and tennis player. He has been a huge inspiration to me every time I step onto a tennis court and I admire all his accomplishments. Here is a video of Agassi's first grand slam victory. It shows all his hard work and determination paying off.
