Kara Burton, NMSU Junior, College of ACES

"I am from the small town of Springer located in northeastern NM. I now attend NMSU where I will be starting my 3rd year studying Agriculture Biology. After graduation, I hope to attend pharmacy school to become a clinical or research pharmacist. The teachers, staff and fellow students will all leave lasting, positive impacts in my life. This scholarship will help with the financial side of college, but more than that, I would like to say thank you to all the donors for not just the financial help but for the support that continues to motivate me to believe in myself and push myself to do the best I can in my studies."

Greg De La Torre, NMSU Senior, College of Arts and Sciences

"I was born and raised here in Las Cruces, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. My goal after graduating is to either begin working in the interactive media industry or stay and pursue my master’s degree at NMSU. My favorite thing about NMSU is the sense of community. The way everything is structured, you quickly make new friends and support each other throughout your time here. The professors aren’t just teachers, they’re mentors, and are always helping to guide you in the right direction whether it be help with course work or just someone to talk to.

This scholarship helps me tremendously going into my final year of my Bachelor’s Degree. In previous years, I’ve had to pay out of pocket for a decent portion of my tuition. Last semester, I took on the challenge of having two jobs so that I could pay off my tuition and still have income for other financial obligations. With this scholarship, I will be able to better devote myself to my studies and be able to focus less on working and more on school. I’m extremely thankful for the fantastic opportunity this scholarship provides."

Kayla Seay, NMSU Senior, College of Health and Social Services

"I am from Las Cruces, and I have lived here all but one year, and during that year I was in El Paso. Once I graduate, I plan to work for two years and then go back to school for anesthesiology! My favorite thing about NMSU is the staff. They are all willing to work with you and help you achieve your goal. This scholarship will help me with my books and allow me to not have to take a loan out for the stuff nursing school requires me to have. I would just like to say thank you for reaching out to me and helping me get one step closer to my goal. It is truly rewarding to know that my hard work is paying off."

Taylore Lengal, NMSU Senior, College of Health and Social Services

"I am from a small town in northern New Mexico called, Continental Divide. After graduation, I plan to travel to Italy and Greece with my grandmother, begin planning my wedding and start my nursing career! My favorite thing about NMSU would have to be the people and the atmosphere of Las Cruces. This scholarship will help pay for the books and supplies I need to get through the remainder of nursing school. Thank you for investing in my future and fueling my academic career. It is awesome to be able to experience donors pouring blessings into New Mexico State University and funding the success of this generation. I am truly thankful to be a recipient of the Pioneers Book Scholarship during my last year at NMSU."
