#NCAAMGym Week 4 Power Rankings Army The Biggest Riser; Ohio State pushes into top-3

With the large variation in scores across regions, these rankings aim to provide a fluid assessment of rank based on performance and current momentum. The + or - next to a team's name represents how much they moved up (+) or down (-) since last week's power rankings.

1. Oklahoma Sooners (-)

Oklahoma did not compete this week and did not move in the rankings.

Next competition: @Iowa vs. Iowa and Minnesota on Feb. 10th

2. Stanford Cardinal (-)

The Cardinal did exactly what they needed to do this weekend to retain their #2 spot. They put up another 420+ in a convincing defeat of a conference rival (Air Force). To stay ahead of an Ohio State team that is closing in they need to keep improving on pommel horse where they rank 5th in the NCAA (the only event where they rank outside the top-3).

Next competition: @California vs. California, Nebraska and Arizona State on Feb. 11th

3. Ohio State Buckeyes (+1)

Forget about the score, Ohio State moves into the top-three because they're getting healthier and scarier by the week. Jake Martin is clicking on all cylinders, Sean Melton is doing more events and Jake Dastrup looks better than ever. With the big names doing well it's easy to forget about role players putting up big numbers on events like PH. This team is hitting its stride.

Next competition: @Penn State on Feb. 11th

4. Illinois Fighting Illini (-1)

Illinois drops one spot due to an off week combined with a good week for the Buckeyes. I've said it before and I'll say it again, it all starts with PH for this team. For years that's where they've made their money and with a defending national champion on the team, this year should be no exception. There is talent in plenty of areas, but that's the event they need in order to separate themselves from the pack.

Next competition: Home vs. Iowa on Feb. 25th

5. Minnesota Golden Gophers (+2)

This spot could just as easily be occupied by the Huskers or Nittany Lions but for now it's the Gophers due to their success without Zach Liebler or Tristan Duran. Both are expected back shortly, but for now their 3rd ranked vault team will keep them afloat. SR & PH will need to be addressed if they want to catch up with Illinois.

Next competition: @Iowa vs. Iowa and Oklahoma on Feb. 10th

6. Nebraska Cornhuskers (-1)

It's impossible to judge either Minnesota or Nebraska based on their scores from this past weekend. According to a team member, the Huskers hit 32/36 routines, which is a great number. If they can keep the hit % up then the scores will be there in a big meet this coming weekend.

Next competition: @California vs. California, Stanford and Arizona State on Feb. 11th

7. Penn State Nittany Lions (-1)

It was a tough weekend for the Nittany Lions. A 64.9 on their second event of the day, floor, seemed to be the catalyst for many of the problems. A bright spot this year has been Michael Burns who seems to be breaking out in his sophomore campaign. He's competed 17 routines on various events this year and holds a 13.88 average, a very impressive number.

Next competition: Home vs. Ohio State on Feb. 11th

8. Air Force Falcons (-)

A great meet across the board this weekend has Air Force locked into the top-eight with the possibility of moving up soon. As their health continues to improve (HC Jeff Robinson mentioned a couple weeks ago that they have plenty of leg injuries) they should only get better on FX and VT, which seem to be their weaker events at the moment.

Next competition: @All Academy Championships (San Antonio, TX) vs. Navy on Feb. 11th

9. Michigan Wolverines (+2)

Michigan moves up this week for two reasons: tough weeks from other teams and the continued improvement of Dmitri Belanovski. Belanovski seems to be returning to the form that allowed him to finish seventh in the all-around at last year's NCAA Championships.

Next competition: Home vs. California on Feb. 25th

10. Navy Midshipmen (-)

Navy lost to rival Army but still retains their spot in the top-10. Take this how you may, but the road team in regular season meetings between the two teams hasn't won since 2011. Jonny Tang continues to be the centerpiece of the team posting an 82.1 in the AA.

Next competition: @All Academy Championships (San Antonio, TX) vs. Air Force on Feb. 11th

11. Army Black Knights (+3)

It's not often you see the type of turnaround the Black Knights made from week three to four. They achieved their first 400+ score (405.85) and took down Navy. Big meets came from veterans Nathan Goff and Leo Genders.

Next competition: Will not be competing at All Academy Championships due to winter storm Niko impeding travel.

12. California Golden Bears (-3)

A sub-60 event score on PH doomed the Golden Bears on Monday night. They avoided any other disaster events but their inabilities on that event will continue to prevent them from scoring as well as they should.

Next competition: Home vs. Stanford, Nebraska and Arizona State on Feb. 11th

13. Iowa Hawkeyes (-1)

The story for the Hawkeyes is eerily similar to Cal; troubles on PH are keeping them down. This is more than likely a symptom of having a young team. They did however post the 9th best VT score (71.45) in the NCAA this year on Monday night.

Next competition: Home vs. Oklahoma and Minnesota on Feb. 10th

14. Arizona State Sun Devils (-1)

Arizona State did not compete this weekend but moved down one spot due to performances by other teams.

Next competition: @California vs. California, Stanford and Nebraska on Feb. 11th

15. William & Mary Tribe (-)

After another solid weekend, the Tribe is inches from moving up in these rankings. An event they struggled on was SR which I don't expect to happen every week. Continuing to improve on FX will have the Tribe higher very soon.

Next competition: @Peachtree Invitational (Atlanta, GA) vs. UIC on Feb. 11th

16. Springfield Pride (-)

A nice all-around day from Josh Dieker wasn't enough to take down W&M. The Pride will need to turn things around on SR where they could only muster a 63.0 this weekend.

Next competition: @Army vs Army and William & Mary on Feb. 25th

17. UIC Flames (-)

The Flames didn't compete this weekend and did not move in the rankings.

Next competition: @Peachtree Invitational (Atlanta, GA) vs. William & Mary on Feb. 11th

18. Washington Huskies (-)

After a season-best 380.3 this weekend Washington may be within striking distance of UIC. They didn't have their best meet on FX (62.6) which could be a point of emphasis heading into their next meet.

Next competition: @Temple vs. Temple and NY Alliance on Feb. 18th

19. Temple Owls (-)

The Owls didn't compete this weekend and did not move in the rankings.

Next competition: Home vs. Washington and NY Alliance on Feb. 18th

20. SC United (-)

SC United didn't compete this weekend and did not move in the rankings.

Next competition: @Arizona State vs. Arizona State and Washington on Feb. 24th
