Alumnae Au Courant FEBRUARY 2019

Georgetown Gathering with Margaret Brennan '98, Host of Face the Nation on CBS

On February 7, alumnae from Sacred Heart Greenwich, Convent of the Sacred Heart - 91st Street, Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, and Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart, many of whom are current Georgetown University students, joined Head of School Pamela Juan Hayes '64 at Georgetown’s McCourt School for Public Policy for a gathering with Margaret Brennan '98, host of Face The Nation on CBS. In 2015, Margaret was the Commencement Speaker at Sacred Heart Greenwich and during the alumnae gathering, Sarah Jackmauh '15, a current senior at Georgetown, got to turn the table and lead a Q&A with Margaret. During the discussion, Margaret touched on how she attributes much of her success to her experience on King Street, specifically the impact of many faculty members who taught her that words matter and to have courage in her own conviction.

Shortly after meeting with Sacred Heart alumnae, Margaret appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Check out Margaret's conversation below, which spans topics from what it is like to host Face the Nation to interviewing President Trump before the Super Bowl.

During the same trip, Head of School Pamela Juan Hayes '64 also welcomed alumnae from the Virginia area to a luncheon in Alexandria on February 8.

Lourdes Chapel

For over 35 years, Sacred Heart Greenwich students have traveled to Lourdes to work with the sick pilgrims. Each July, the Ampleforth Pilgrimage enables the sick to visit the grotto, where St. Bernadette received a number of apparitions of the Blessed Mother. Long after they have left our campus on King Street, students talk of the lasting impact this international service trip had on their experience at Sacred Heart Greenwich. On February 4, Margaret Shafer ’01, who has attended the pilgrimage for many years including the one this past July, joined students who visited Lourdes this past summer while they had the opportunity to share their own memorable experiences with the rest of the Upper School in a special Lourdes Chapel.

Sr. Bamwine, RSCJ, Head of School at the Sacred Heart School in Uganda and Former Provincial of the Province of Africa, visits Sacred Heart Greenwich

Every year, Sacred Heart Greenwich commits to supporting nine African girls to attend our sister school in Uganda. On January 23, Sister Hilda Bamwine, RSCJ, Head of School at the Sacred Heart School in Uganda and Former Provincial of the Province of Africa, and Sister Joan Magnetti, RSCJ, joined us on King Street to speak with students in all divisions. Sr. Bamwine gave students a glimpse into what life is like at the Sacred Heart Primary School in Kyamusanala, Uganda.

Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer Service

On January 22, Sacred Heart Greenwich held its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Prayer service, honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King. A favorite tradition each year, this year's theme was "Raising Our Voice and Embracing the Dream", featuring students in all divisions sharing how their voices can be used to advocate for others. The Vision Steppers and the Concordia GospelKnights also returned for another year of wonderful song and dance.

This year's service also featured a video created by our Broadcast Journalism students that brought together members of our Sacred Heart Greenwich community to recite the famous "I Have a Dream" speech as a reminder that we too can promote justice and equality for all.
