Why: Plaza Midwood businesses have taken great care to be safe during this pandemic but the result of the epidemic and safety measures has been a tremendous and sustained reduction in revenue, lost jobs, and worries about survival. Our local businesses need our support and outside dining is a safer choice. On-street dining provides a potential mitigation of the lost seating capacity of restaurants. Do we standby and watch our businesses struggle while hoping for the best, or, do we take action to support our local small businesses? We know that the vibrancy of our local business community is a key factor in the sustained value of the area residential properties.

This is not a solution to all covid-related problems but it is intended to accomplish several core goals:

1. Provide a safer alternative to support local businesses during the Covid-19 pandemic by expanding outdoor seating options.

2. Provide an opportunity for us to "walk the walk" on walkability and pedestrian powered commerce.

3. Furthering PMM priority to protect the character of our business district, already under tremendous development pressure. The more businesses that fail, the more property for sale.
