The game of Baseball was first created in Cooperstown, New York in 1839. The game was not organized to some years later but there were some teams that were still established in 1839 such as the Knickerbockers. This team was founded by Alexander Cartwright, "The Father of Modern Baseball', and later on in 1845 he would write the rules of baseball. Alexander also organized the first baseball game in the United States on June 19th, 1846 in Hoboken, New Jersey.
The Start of Organized Baseball
Baseball became the first professional sport and in 1850 the National Association of Baseball Players (NABBP) was created. Then in 1876 the National league was up and running. Baseball was then introduced into Cuba in 1878 by a professional baseball player named Esteban Bellan. Also Some games were played in New Zealand, Australia, and in the South Pacific between 1888 and 1889. Also a man named Albert Spalding brought the the game to Italy in February of 1889.
The Rise of Baseball
The league really started to pick up in the beginning of the 20th century. Then in 1903 the first World Series game was played when the National League champion played the champion of the American league and now the World Series is payed every year. Many countries in the 20th century started to organize their own baseball leagues. Some of these countries were Japan in 1936, Puerto Rico in 1938, The Netherlands in 1922, and Australia in 1934.
