4B12 Lilli Gleason Poland to America

Half way through my boat ride to America I started to think maybe I should have just stayed at Poland, but when I saw the Statue of Liberty I knew my life was going to get great. I remember that I was waiting for days, it felt like months though. Oh by the way my name is Skye. When I was finally up next to be inspected my heart skipped a beat. I had saw the button hook. The scariest moment of becoming an immigrant. This was worse than the boat ride and I wasn't rich so I didn't have a good place to sleep and all that. The button hook was scary and it hurt, but as I went on everything was fine; at times I was worried I would get marked for a health disease. Luckily that didn't happen and I got through slowly but smoothly and I was so happy when I finally got to go join my family in Texas. Once I'm in Texas I would live my dream of being a hair stylist.

This is my home country, Poland.
This is the Statue everybody raves about.
  1. The Statue of Liberty wares a crown with 7 rays that represent the 7 continents.
  2. It was sent to us by France.
  3. The Statue stands on a broken chain to represent freedom.
  4. She stands for liberty, freedom, and friendship between countries.
This is where I became an American.

The "Did You Know?" were really interesting; I liked how they were quick facts. I thought that the passages were great, too. It was interesting to learn what they do at Ellis Island. The last thing that I loved was the adios; I like to hear about what immigrants felt like going to and on Ellis Island.
