Throughout the Civil Rights Movement, nonviolent marches happened frequently to protest for civil rights and equality for black people. Even though a lot of them have the goal of being peaceful, some marches end up being violent. Marches are held all over the world, whether it is to protest for equality or it is just a gathering of people to celebrate something, marches can help people attain a goal of some sort. These goals can range from peace to equality, or even if people want to march against there Governmet or laws.
This video gives an in depth overview of the March on Washington in 1963. This is also where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous I Have a Dream speech.
Even today, there are marches going on to protest for equal treatment for black people. Most of these protest are nonviolent but either end up nonviolent or the media does not cover the nonviolent protest. Most of these protests are for the Black Lives Matter movement which is sweeping the nation and making people go out and protest for fair treatment between black people and white people. They especially protest against white cops killing innocent black people, mainly teens, and the cops do not get charged with any punishment.
