Men & Women A Bible Study

Genesis 1:27-28

So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
God created man and woman to be companions, to be fruitful and exercise authority on the earth.

In Genesis 3, Adam revealed the often repeated sin of men… standing by silently as the enemy infiltrates the home. In Jesus, men can reverse this sin of passivity and become men who serve and protect those around them. Men, here are some principles of relating with women. Learn to relate with all women as your Father in heaven does. Live as a man of God and as a godly husband, whether you are married or not.

Read 1 Timothy 5:1-2

How should men treat older and younger women?

Read Ephesians 5:1-4

How could these verses change the way men relate with women?

God created humans in his image - both male and female. The image of God is completed in BOTH male and female. In God's eyes, women are not second place, weaker or less valuable than men. They hold a prime position with God, created in his image to rule and reign with Jesus (Gen. 1:28; Col. 3:1-4). Women should hold themselves with dignity, recognizing their value and status as daughters of the King.

Read Proverbs 4:23; 31:30 & 1 Peter 3:3-4

How should a woman carry herself? What does God see as of great value in the woman?

How to find the right marriage partner?

Read Proverbs 31:10 & 2 Corinthians 6:14

What should we look for in a spouse?

When we put all of our hopes on a person -- whether male or female -- we will end up empty and deeply disappointed (see Gen. 3:16-17). God does not call us together as a man and woman for the purpose of getting our needs met, but rather to give sacrificially to the other person. Why do you desire to date and ultimately get married? It is important to be clear about your ultimate purpose. Otherwise, a great possibility of disappointment lies ahead of you.

In other words, we should pass all of our desires and attraction with the opposite sex through our Father in heaven. For it is the Father who called man and woman to be together (Gen. 2:18, 24). He really is into man-woman relationships! Trust him with your hopes and desires. Approach the opposite sex with intentionality, if you have a sense from your Father to move forward. Pray first, then act!
