Austin's Incredible and Inspiring Journey to the NFL

  • Grew up in Eaton, Colorado (population: 5,000) where he lived with his mom and then-stepfather; his stepdad made Austin wake up everyday at 6:30 am to help him with his fencing company (rain or shine)
  • Had zero Division I offers coming out of high school; only offer came from tiny Western Colorado University (Div II)
  • To help pay for rent at school, got a job as a river rafting instructor
  • After graduation, already had a regular office job lined up for after the summer but was able to try out for the Chargers before it started
  • Made the Chargers' roster as an undrafted free agent in 2017
  • Became the first Chargers undrafted rookie RB to post three touchdown catches in a season, while tying RB Don Woods (1974) and RB James Brooks (1981) for the team record by a rookie RB
  • Has the second most receiving yards since 2018 among all NFL running backs
  • In March 2020, his hard work paid off: signed a four year, $24.5 million contract with Los Angeles, making him one of the faces of the franchise for the foreseeable future
