Videoconference With NASA

The fifth graders are videoconferencing with NASA at the Mars Spaceflight Facility at Arizona State University tomorrow and Thursday. They will be presenting their research proposals. They are very interested in helping NASA find liquid water on Mars!

Thank You

Thank you to all of the students and staff that Rocked Their Socks last week. We raised over $200 to support the National Down Syndrome Society!

The Sounds Of Music Class

Kindergarteners are reviewing and working on their Takadimi rhythms, played on wooden rhythm sticks. They each echo and say a 4-beat rhythm that Mrs. Lordan plays. They have been doing a great job!

1st graders are learning and playing some songs in 3/4 time on the Boomwhackers, which are rainbow-colored tubes that are each a different size and pitch! This is a change from our usual 4/4 songs that we have been working on thus far!

2nd graders are finally learning how to play the recorder, which is a beginning woodwind instrument! The first song learned is of course "Hot Cross Buns", which uses 3 notes: B,A,G. Students earn "belts" similar to karate (which are elastic bands placed on the bottom part of the recorder), when they are able to play a song accurately together in small groups.

3rd, 4th & 5th graders are beginning the piano keyboard unit, which focuses on learning the name of the keys on the piano and how to play some simple songs using 3 fingers on 1 hand (some students are playing with 2 hands!) The students are having fun playing and experimenting with the different sounds on the keyboards!

Calendar Correction

The next early release day will be May 31st and not June 7th, as previously published. The Friday before Graduation Sunday - June 2nd is a district-wide traditional half day for building based activities and it was recorded in error. Attached is the corrected calendar.

Substitutes Wanted

As a district we are looking for more substitutes. If you have a desire to come in and work with students, please click here to find the packet needed to apply. We would love to have you join us at JRB!

  • Grade 5- Wednesday, April 10 and Thursday, April 11.
  • Grade 4- Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24.
  • Grade 3- Thursday, April 25 and Friday, April 26.

  • Grade 5- Tuesday, April 30th and Wednesday, May 1.
  • Grade 4- Thursday, May 2 and Friday, May 3.
  • Grade 3- Tuesday, May 7 and Wednesday, May 8.

Science and Technology

  • Grade 5- Thursday, May 9 and Friday May 10.

There are many schedule alterations that take place during these dates, but most of them are simply switch lunch/recess times or the time that grade levels have special classes.
