Pre-primary Scribbles October 5th- October 9th

This week we discussed apples. It is a fruit that grows on trees. Apples are one of the most popular fruits. Apple trees grow in more parts of the world than any other fruit tree. They grow best in areas that have cool winters.

There are more than 7500 different kinds of apples. These include the McIntosh, Granny Smith, Red Delicious, Golden Delicious and Rome.

Children learnt the different parts of an apple. They learnt that an apple has five parts. They are the skin, flesh, core, stem and seeds. The skin of an apple can be red, yellow or green. The core, is the center of an apple and has the seeds.

We discussed how apples grow. In the spring, buds appear on the apple tree branches. The buds grow leaves and then flowers called apple blossoms which begin to bloom on apple trees. When the flower dies, green bulges start growing in their place. These eventually grow into apples. Throughout the warm summer, the little apples grow bigger and bigger. During the summer or early fall the apples ripen.

When trees are loaded with ripe apples, it is harvest time. Workers pick by hand. They also use ladders to reach the high branches.
