Principal Report 2019 | TERM THREE | 9 AUGUST

We are almost at the mid point of term 3! We have been having lots of fun here at school, learning about our big idea, SYSTEMS. It has got me thinking about the importance of systems and how we all rely on them in one way or another. As most of you are aware we are working on improving many systems in the school. We would like to thank you for your feedback containing ideas for our new playground concept as well as how to improve our reporting system to parents. This information gathered by all stakeholders (parents, students and staff), will ensure that we create great systems that will in turn benefit student learning.

I will be meeting today with the Playground Committee and Playground Ideas to see what they have put together based upon the feedback we received. I look forward to sharing with you all, what has come from it.

Over the next fortnight, I will be working with teachers to use your feedback as well as those from teachers to develop a concept for how our reports may look for our next report at the end of the year. In addition to gathering feedback from the community, we have sought samples from other schools and will be taking the best from each to develop ours. This will be another great development that will provide clarity on student progress throughout the year.

School Wide Positive Behaviours - Your Say On Our School Values - Tuesday, 13 August 2019

Next week on Tuesday, 13th August at 7pm we will be holding a School Values Workshop for parents. Teachers have gone through the same process for developing an idea of what we believe our school values could be and now we are seeking feedback from the community. We will have a DET (Department of Education and Training) representative with us on the night to talk about the Victorian State’s initiative for School Wide Positive Behaviours and how the importance of setting core values of the school will assist in the process of developing these behaviours.

I look forward to this session and to hear from you about your thoughts on what our core values for the school could be.

1-1 For Learning Information Session - Wednesday, 21 August 2019

Earlier this week I sent out a Compass Notice (you will find this in your News Feed), regarding the Technology Proposal: Proposed Timeline. This timeline outlines that after the Proposal Document has been sent to parents this Monday (12 August), we will have an information session for parents to see how tablets are used within the classroom to enhance student learning. I’d like to advise all parents that this session is an information session only, where parents can see how the device is used. The aim of this session will be to answer concerns raised at the engagement forum regarding eSafety, Screen Time, stories from another schools similar to us, and how the device is used within the classroom.

Book Week is Coming - Reading is My Secret Power: Friday 23rd August 2019

I love Book Week. Not just because it is about reading, but because it creates an excitement about reading. I love seeing what students and teachers dress up as, as it provides everyone with an opportunity to talk about the books they love to read. What a great way to promote the love of reading. Plus dressing up is fun. This year, I have challenged all staff members to dress up in their teams following a theme. Everyone, including students are encouraged to not spend money on their costumes, but use their skills of creativity, critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration, to put something together. Anything big or little is welcomed. Looking forward to it:)

Until next fortnight, take care.
