Note from Mr Higginbottom

Hello! It has been a great week of learning, and it is so lovely to see children making good progress in their lessons - I've had some lovely conversations with parents about how pleased they are with great steps that their children are taking - thank you so much for taking the time to feed this back to us.

It was fabulous to welcome new governors to our governing body this week. I'm really pleased to be working in partnership with parents. Another way that we can do this is via a 'Friends of Swinton Queen' parent group. Would anyone be interested in being part of that? If you would, please let me know and I'll see whether there's enough interest to get a group up and running. It will be fabulous to have additional opportunities for our children.

Good luck to our football team representing Swinton Queen at the first stages of the Totty Cup next Tuesday - thank you very much to Mr Gillespie for working with our children to prepare them.

Whole school attendance is now 94.8% - good progress this week. Our highest attending class is Y5/6W with 97.6% - Well done!

Lateness Procedures

Thank you very much to the good proportion of families who ensure that children are in school for the start of the school day. To minimise disruption caused by a minority of late-comers, the main gates to the playground will close at 9AM. Children should arrive by the main entrance after 9AM so that Mrs Stone in the school office can ensure that registers are updated without disrupting lessons.

Harvest

Father Barley is joining us on Monday for our in-school Harvest assemblies. If you'd like to make a Harvest donation of a tinned or packet food item then please bring it to main reception on Monday. We will then make a donation to the Food Bank at Wath on behalf of the Swinton Queen Community. Thank you.

Phase Leader/ Head teacher Meetings

I'm really sorry that we had to postpone our KS1 meeting this week. The new date for this meeting is Thursday 21st October at 2:30 in the school hall. We hope that you'll be able to pop to school a little earlier than the end of the school day for KS1 children to come to meet with myself and Mrs Cox.

The Head teacher/Phase leader meeting for upper Key Stage 2 (Y5/Y6) will take place at 2:45 on Monday 18th October in the school hall. Mrs McArdle and I look forward to meeting parents of Y5/Y6 children then.

Our new School Rules and Values

As part of the work on our new school behaviour policy, I worked with children in key stage 2 this week to help identify what we all believe should be our 5 over-arching values that we value to help children to achieve the best that they can and to be the best possible citizens. I shared children's ideas with staff and we finalised our 5 Core Values as:

Safe, Respectful, Aspirational, Pride, Independence.

I'll share the new behaviour policy in the coming weeks.

Lost Coat

Please could you help us to solve a mystery surrounding a missing coat? A child in Y5/6 has lost a grey coat which has grey cuffs. It appears to have been mixed up with a very similar one, which we still have in school and is now unclaimed! We need to reunite the missing coat with its owner, and the coat we do have with the correct child. If your child has a similar coat, please double check it is the correct one - let us know if it isn't. Thank you.

INSET Days and Holidays

Just a reminder that we have TWO INSET days coming up - Friday 22nd October and Monday 1st November are staff training days. That means that children finish for the October half term break on Thursday 21st October and return to school on Tuesday 2nd November.

Enjoy the Weekend!

Thank you for your continued support of our school and for supporting your child by ensuring they're at school on time and they read at least 4 times each week. If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child's time in school you can email enquiries@sqp.wwpat.org, find me on ClassDojo or chat to me at the start or end of the school day.

At Swinton Queen Primary School, children are aspirational, courageous and inquisitive; respectful of all.
