Almuñécar The first few days

The first few days - 5th to 7th March 2020

After a good nights sleep, our friend Gordon and his son Calum collected us and we went into the centre of Almuñécar for breakfast, followed by a guided tour of the town so that we got an idea of where things were. It was really very kind of them.

When we were dropped back home, we drove to a Decathlon Store in Motril. I had only forgotten to pack my cycling shorts and tops, so had to buy some from there. Really silly of me! We then made our way to the Los Moriscos Club de Golf, to make a couple of tee bookings.

We returned to the villa where I spent most of the afternoon getting the two cycles unpacked and ready for use. We had lunch sitting out on the patio in the sun at a warm 22c and took it easy for the rest of the day.

On Friday morning we took a stroll into Almuñécar, which is just down the road from us. We walked along the promenade taking in the sights and making our way into the old town with its winding, narrow and hilly streets. Very quaint it was too. We had a lovely coffee sitting in the sun before making our way to the supermarket for a quick shop. Back home for Serrano Ham and cheese with a beer and an afternoon spent lazing around in the sun.

Plenty of loo roll is over here
Scenes from Almuñécar

On Saturday I went out for my first ride on my Bianchi. 26 miles in total with nearly 2500 feet climbed. I was pleased that I had a bit of assistance up the very steep hills on the way out which averaged 8.7% gradient. Once over the top it was plain sailing all the way back home with just a few hills to master. It was great to ride again without any mudguards and all the winter gear that we have to use in the UK. A warm 17c was a great change as well.

I left Ann back in the villa doing all the dreaded housework and washing ??!! Will have to make it up to her somehow! Another food shopping expedition, and a lazy afternoon once again in the sun. A hard life here eh!!
