PDP Newsletter March 2020

As many of you are aware, GTU's Professional Development Program (PDP) helps doctoral students (masters students are always welcome, though!) to develop academic and non-academic skills that contribute to academic and professional success. Towards that end, throughout the year, events and workshops are organized and a monthly newsletter with scholarship deadlines, job openings, and announcements is circulated among students. Now, in my role as the Director of Student Life, I will be taking care of the GTU's PDP. That means, I will be organizing the PDP workshops and sending you the monthly newsletter. Starting with this one, you can expect a newsletter from me in the last week of each month, except when the school is not in session.

With regard to the workshops, we already have facilitators lined up for the entire calendar year and a complete list of workshops has been posted on the GTU website (https://www.gtu.edu/students/professional-development). I will send you monthly reminders of the upcoming workshops (see below), but you can always check out the website or email me at cmotupalli@gtu.edu for more details.

On the topic of workshops, if you missed Prof. Arthur Holder's workshop on how to craft an effective teaching philosophy, please check out the following video.

Call for Papers

I am sure, many of you might have already submitted your paper proposals for AAR 2020. But just in case if you haven't, the deadline for the call for papers for AAR 2020 is Monday, March 2, 5 pm (EST). Please check out the website for more details: https://www.aarweb.org/annual-meeting/call-for-proposals

For SBL, the deadline is March 11, and you can find more details here: https://www.sbl-site.org/meetings/Congresses_CallForPapers.aspx?MeetingId=37

Scholarship Deadlines

Sheryl Johnson, our Scholarship Research Assistant, compiles a list of scholarships and organizes them on our scholarship webpage: http://scholarships.gtu.edu. If you have not visited the page yet, please do. For instance, the picture that I have included below shows the scholarships that have deadlines in March. You can search the webpage based on your area of study, or the stage in the program you are in, or many other tags as listed in the sidebar.

Job Openings

If you come across any calls for paper or job openings or scholarships that might be relevant to your peers at the GTU, please share them with me. Also, if you have any questions with regard to the workshops, please email me at: cmotupalli@gtu.edu. Thank you!
