As described in the Conservation Standards, this step involves specifying the basic parameters for your project and assessing your overall context. Specifically, it involves:
- Determining the purpose of your planning,
- Identifying who will be part of your project team,
- Articulating your project’s geographic, thematic, or target-based scope,
- Describing your vision,
- Determining what you ultimately want to influence by identifying the conservation and human wellbeing targets on which you will focus, and
- Identifying threats, opportunities, and key stakeholders that influence the targets.
