Peter's story Melaura Martinez

Our story starts here in the town of Galilee. Peter was a ordinary fishermen living an ordinary life until he met a charismatic preacher named Jesus. After that his life would never be the same.

What was his real name?

Peter was originally named Simon by his parents. Later after he had met Jesus he renamed him Peter (Petros, which means "rock," meant to describe his eventual strength and stability)

About him

Peter may have come from Bethsaida, but he and his brother Andrew lived in Capernaum and earned their living there by fishing. They were in partnership as fishermen with James and John, sons of Zebedee.

Family life

Now the bible dose not talk much about his family or background to much. The bible does however mention that he was married but her name we do not know. There is also no mention of any children whatsoever.

Walking on water

As we all know Peter walked on water. By himself um no that's just where his story starts to get good. Well shall we continue with the story it has a good lesson behind it to. Let's go!

The walk of faith

Why not hear it straight from the bible ;)

22 Immediately Jesus made the disciples get into the boat and go on ahead of him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowd. 23 After he had dismissed them, he went up on a mountainside by himself to pray. Later that night, he was there alone, 24 and the boat was already a considerable distance from land, buffeted by the waves because the wind was against it.

25 Shortly before dawn Jesus went out to them, walking on the lake. 26 When the disciples saw him walking on the lake, they were terrified. “It’s a ghost,” they said, and cried out in fear.

27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.”

29 “Come,” he said.

Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!”

31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”

32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”

Matthew 14:22-33New International Version (NIV)

We are all peter

Just like Peter we all lose sight of God. It can be just as easy for us as it was for Peter. Jesus called to him and he trusted and had faith that when Jesus told him that if he has faith he can walk on water to him and not sink. Now Peter was doing great just like we do in life for a short while and while we are doing great we start to think that we are fine on our own. Yet that's when we lose sight of Jesus just like Peter did and we start to drown. But wait Jesus grabs us and never really lets us sink EVER even if we feel like we are He is always right there. As long as we have faith and keep our eyes fixed up one the Lord He is with us and we can do ANYTHING WITH JESUS!

A quote

Matthew 26:33, 35 “Peter answered him, “Though they all fall away because of you, I will never fall away. Peter said to him, “Even if I must die with you, I will not deny you!” And all the disciples said the same”
