Y10 Photography Trip Tate Modern & Borough Market

On Monday 30th October 2019 our year 10 GCSE Photography students travelled to London to take images around Borough Market and view Photography work at Tate Modern.

At Tate the students focused on the architectural photographic images made by Japanese photographer, Naoya Hatakeyama. We were interested in his work as it connects to our project theme of Structures and Environments; his images reflect the space in which he lives and works.

All students were set a task to reflect on two of the images and use drawing and literacy skills in order discuss their personal reflections and reactions. When talking about images we learn to use Ways In. This is a system that helps to scaffold our text in important sections called; personal-object-subject-context.

As we wandered the gallery spaces we also took photographs in the style of Naoya Hatakeyama and we considered other photographers who we had already studied at school.

At Borough Market students took a series of images based on their theme of Structures and Environments and they used the work of Brazilian photographer, Geraldo De Barros as inspiration.

Like De Barros our images can be further manipulated through software such as Adobe Photoshop and mobile apps such as Snapseed. The images below were made by combining different images taken on the trip using Snapseed and the overlay function.
