Legacy Walk Students on Atlanta’s Westside Prepare to Make History

Students at Brown Middle School and Hollis Innovation Academy will participate in a ceremonial walk along Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to commemorate status as Washington High School’s Centennial Class.

Upon completion of their high school education, current 8th grade students at Brown Middle School and Hollis Innovation Academy will be Washington High School’s Centennial Class in 2024.

To celebrate this significant moment in history, these students will come together to participate in a ceremonial walk along Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive to Booker T. Washington High School as a symbolic rite of passage.

Established in 1924, Washington High School became the first high school in the Southeast to provide a free, public education for African Americans, and is the beloved alma mater of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., who was a proud resident of Atlanta’s Historic Westside neighborhoods.
