We are proud to announce that Grant Elementary has been named as a Leader in Me Lighthouse School by Franklin Covey! This recognition comes because the school has achieved outstanding results in school and student outcomes, by implementing The Leader in Me process with fidelity. Grant Elementary has been named the sixth Lighthouse School in Iowa and is one of 316 Lighthouse Schools internationally. Congratulations Students and Staff for this amazing accomplishment!

Thursday afternoon was bittersweet at Mulberry. We celebrated our fantastic 5th grade class, but we also said good-bye and good luck at middle school! (Dan the bus driver also had some fun being a photo-bomb!)

The CMS Jazz Band mini-tour was held on Friday, May 19th, was a big success for CMS Jazz Band, Rock Orchestra, and Swing Choir students. It was amazing to see how well CMS students worked together to go from one elementary to another and on top of it have great performances at each one. A special thank you goes out to parents and teachers who gave us their Fridays to travel with us.

The sixth grade students at West Middle School participated in a grade level kickball tournament to celebrate a great 2016-2017 school year. They were good sports to all of their teammates by encouraging others to do their best. The highlight of the students' day was not that they got out of doing school work but that they got to enjoy snow cones from the Moss Mobile.

Ms. Matteson's sixth grade ELA classes held award ceremonies this week for academic achievement. Four students received awards for perfect attendance in ELA during the 2016-2017 school year, and twenty-five students received awards for completing all fifteen of the assigned book reports in sixth grade.

As a culminating activity to their space unit, 6th graders in Mr. Yerington's classes built and raced “space rovers” in two divisions (Remote Controlled and Push).

Seven of the Eight Finalists!
A time-trial for one of the remote rovers.

Bags of Blessings paired with the MHS Work Experience program has helped to deliver 6902 bags of food this school year to elementary students who were in need of food on the weekends. Our work students have benefited tremendously from this project. Students learned how to count, order, predict and keep track of stock. They also learned to work as a team and as an assembly line to pack bags and to deliver these bags to their destinations each week. This has been a great community project that has introduced our student workers to soft skills that needed to be developed before going out into the community workforce.

The MHS Work Experience program could not have provided the opportunity for these students without the participation of Bags of Blessings. Thanks so much to Bags of Blessing for giving the work experience team a chance to develop our skills. Thank you to all of the staff and administration in the elementary buildings for their participation in bags. What a wonderful partnership! Have a GREAT SUMMER and we will see you next year!

Tyler Olson finished 4th in the 800m run in class 4A. He also finished 5th overall in the whole state when comparing his time 1A-4A. Congrats Tyler!

...and they celebrated by having a friendly competition of the bouncy house obstacle course after the students left for the day!

VFW annually recognizes the nation's top classroom elementary, junior high, and high school teachers who teach citizenship education topics regularly and promote America's history and traditions effectively. Congratulations Matt!
