It was a pleasure to welcome Reverends Claire and David from St Peter and St Paul's church in the centre of Kettering. Reverend Claire led a Harvest assembly and agreed that collecting donations for the Food Bank would be a great way of showing our gratitude and caring for our community. There is information below about what to bring in and where to leave it next week, but I do hope that you are able to support this worthy community action.
In other sports news, following the Summer Cup last week, the boys' and girls' football teams have been representing the school in three different competitions: at the Poppies' football ground, at Buccleuch Academy and at Tresham College. As ever, the children played their best and represented their school brilliantly. Thank you to Mr Hughes, Miss Bayes and Mr Ilko (who has only just joined our Sports and PE team) for helping to organise the event.
Last but not least, please take read the notice about road safety carefully. The school really can only keep Highfield Road safe for our children with your help and co-operation. Please park considerately, for our community neighbours, and safely for our children, and use the car park at the pub to reduce congestion.
Have a lovely weekend
Parking outside the school gate
Greenfields Primary School and Nursery prides itself on the safety of our children and families and we are all grateful to everyone who parks and drive considerately and safely. We wanted to let you know however that following increased levels of complaints from parents, local residents and passers by regarding the congestion outside of the school gate and in residents only parking spaces, the council and PCSOs local to this area will be issuing parking tickets to anyone who has parked dangerously, or on the restricted single yellow lines along Highfield Road. The fines are really quite high and to be avoided.
Mrs Appleby, Mrs Tyrrell-Smith and other senior staff are on the gate to ensure safety of our children and request ALL parents/carers and anyone who drops children off at Greenfields to please use the free council car park at the end of Highfield Road next to the Mikado Pheasant public house. Please help us keep everyone safe.

Greenfields Celebrates Harvest Festival
After our brilliant assembly with Reverend Clare from St Peter and St Paul's Church, where the school learnt all about celebrating and giving thanks for the Harvest, Greenfields Primary School and Nursery want to show their support by collecting for the local Food Banks.
All next week, your child's teacher will have a collection box outside their classroom where you can donate items to the food bank. Remember this does not just have to be food; this can also be other helpful items such as shower gel, toilet rolls and sanitary products.
Very Happy Hyenas..... And Tigers!
Year One received some new classroom equipment this week. Mrs Wensley and Mrs Willmot asked the very excited children to open the new boxed equipment. The year group were so happy to see a brand new sandpit to play with!
Champion Cheetahs have enjoyed creating their own scenery masterpieces focussing on perspective and the importance of layering their pictures to have a foreground, middle and background.
During Monday's science lesson, Year Four studied the muscles of facial expression in detail. These muscles are an example of voluntary muscles because people have conscious control over them, meaning they choose to use them or not. The children learnt that there are a number of different muscles in their face that are responsible for forming different facial expressions. For example, contraction of the nasalis muscle can cause our nostrils to flare (try it!). In order to help remember the different muscles of facial expression and their function, the children practiced forming funny facial expressions with their partner, where they took photographs on the iPads, and also spoke about the different muscles behind the expression. This was a fun and relatable learning activity which will help make their learning more memorable and support the easier recall of knowledge.
Learning Through Exercise
Year Five designed an exercise programme using their knowledge of the muscular system showing strength, flexibility and endurance.
Excellent Elephants have been learning about observational drawings and sketching in their art lessons. The children were so proud of their first attempts of sketching!
Phone a Friend
In English, Marvellous Meerkats explored ways to recall their invented story- they used 'phone a friend' to retell their story in the right order.
Warning! Stories Invented!
Cheeky Monkeys’ class have been writing their invented warning story this week, this is all about a chocolate cake being eaten. To help with our writing process we tasted, smelled and discussed chocolate cakes! It really helped the children develop their vocabulary and language. Smiles all around!
Busy reading in Reception
The children this week have enjoyed reading their favourite stories, sharing stories with friends, and used props in retelling core texts.
Autumn in Nursery
The two years old's have been exploring Autumn objects. Using paint to roll and rub the different items to see their effects. The children then print them onto paper to see what shapes they leave.
The group have also been following on with their topic story Goldilocks and The Three Bears, creating our own bears using forks to give a fur like texture. “Grrrr”

Teachers are looking forward to posting their ‘Flipping Greenfields’ videos every Friday next term in time for the weekend. Each one is all about next week’s learning, so will get your child prepared for a flying start on Monday. Research shows that children who feel prepared for the coming week are less anxious about school, happier to get up and go on a Monday morning and achieve better than those who are not.
