Level 3 County Football

We are so proud of the children who represented Monkton Park school on Tuesday at the County Football Finals.

Our girls team had the worst weather for their tournament, playing in hail, sleet and driving rain. Despite the awful conditions, they played with amazing spirit and determination, drawing three group games against some strong opposition, only losing to the eventual County champions.

Our boys really rose to the challenge of playing against some of the best school teams in Wiltshire. Playing a style of football that attracted praise from opposition coaches, they cruised through the group stages, beating some really strong teams, to qualify for the semi final, against the strongest primary school team in Swindon. The match was eventually settled by a penalty shoot out; our goalkeeper Will made two outstanding saves, and Noah kept his cool to dispatch the winning penalty! The final proved a bridge too far, narrowly losing 2-1 to Derry Hill, but they left the tournament with their heads help high as County runners up! The attitude, team spirit and sportsmanship were a real credit to the school and they can all be really proud of their achievement.

Young Voices

At the beginning we were so excited to go to Birmingham. Our excitement lasted until the end at 11.30pm. On the way we were practicing our songs: Pop medley, Queen medley, Frighfest, Best of the west, Larger than life, Somebody to love, You will be in my heart/I'm on my way, 1000 Halleljahs, I couldn't do this without you and Shiny happy people. We caught our first glimpse of the stadium as we walked into it at 2.00 for the rehersal, it was enormous.

Our favorite parts:

"Our favorite part was watching Urban Strides dance." Amelia S and Phoebe

"When we did the Mexican wave." Dixie and Isabelle

"When we saw celebrities sing" Sophie.

Thank you to Mrs Taylor for all of her hard work teaching us and to Mrs Contardi and Mrs Bevan who helped look after us on the day.
