Malte Müller Researcher (MET), RF4

What is your specific role in the project?

I coordinate the development work of a coupled weather, ocean, and sea-ice forecasting system.

Which scientific question do you hope to answer at the end of the project?

The main goal is to advance our forecasting capabilities in the Arctic.

If you had to choose another discipline within the Nansen Legacy, which one would you choose?

It would be fascinating to do more fieldwork, complimentary to our work on forecast models. I think it would improve our scientific understanding and model development work if we would also go more into the field. I am grateful that I had the chance to participate in the Nansen Legacy process cruise last year.

The Arctic, what fascinates you the most?

All those different forms of frozen water. Sea-ice, glaciers, icebergs ….

What is the first thing you think off when hearing the name, Fridtjof Nansen?

The Fram expedition. The courage of these early explorers and their skill and innovations to survive and do research in the Arctic.

Which book/film/music has made the largest impression on you lately?

Chloe & Theo : A movie about an Inuit who was sent to inform the rest of the world about their elder’s dream that the sun is going to kiss the Earth and destroy everything. A mind blowing story about simplicity and the danger of climate warming.
