Mrs. Pfeiffer's fabulous news! December 2, 2016

Reading

This week we finished reading, Hatchet. The students really enjoyed this book and did really well on both the essays and the end of novel test. If your child is interested, Brian's Winter, picks up right where Hatchet left off if he had not been rescued and goes into how Brian would have needed to adapt to survive the winter's harsh conditions.

Math

This week we started Unit 4. Unit 4 focuses on multidigit multiplication. I will be teaching the students several different strategies. The students may answer the multiplication problems in whichever strategy works best for them. We also learned the conversions from liters to milliliters.

Science

The students started a new chapter learning about hurricanes and tornadoes. This is to build background knowledge because in reading next week we will be working with nonfiction text digging into these weather phenomenons a little more deeply.

Kindness Counts!

This month, the students are taking part in two activities to spread kindness and cheer. The first one is our fuzzy sock drive. We are doing this is instead of a classroom gift exchange. The fuzzy socks will benefit families and children at Comer's Children's hospital in Chicago. We will also be making cards for the kids and families who have to spend their holiday season in the hospital. All fuzzy socks are due December 15th.

We also are unveiling gifts of kindness each day. On our board each day, there is a gift. We read it together and any extra time the students have during the day, they work on that gift. The first two days included making cards for soldiers overseas and cards or pictures for our elderly in the nursing homes. We hope to spread cheer this season.

  • Winter Concert will be Tuesday December 13th at 10:30 and 2:30- notes were sent home yesterday regarding attire and the theme. If you did not receive this note- please let me know!
