Desert Willow Elementary Learning for life and loving to learn May 19, 2021

Thank you for a great year of learning and growing. I am so proud of our students and staff for the hard work put in every day - from our start with distance learning in August to the return to in-person learning on September 8, I have been amazed every day by the hard work and dedication of every person on our campus. I am ending this school year in awe of the resilience and determination shown each and every day. One thing has been made very clear to me - Desert Willow is an amazing community of caring individuals who come together and support each other when it counts.

I also know there are many questions about what next year will look like. Although our staffing can change if our enrollment changes over the summer, I want to share what it looks like right now. Class assignments will be shared right before school starts, just like normal, so we can account for any changes in staffing and class sizes and make as few adjustments as possible. Please know that our teachers put a lot of effort into creating well-balanced classes for the following year, considering student strengths and classroom dynamics in order to create the best possible classroom environments for every student.

Report Cards

Report cards will be sent home tomorrow, 5/20, along with a copy of next year's school supply list. Supply lists are also posted on our website. If your child will not be here tomorrow, please make sure to stop by the office next week to pick up any leftover items.

Medication Pick-up

Please stop by the health office by noon on May 20th to pick up any prescription and/or over the counter medication(s) your child has and sign the end of year report. Medications will NOT be signed out to students. We are required to destroy all medications (prescription and over the counter) not picked up by May 20th.

Face masks are still required at school. Please send your student with a mask and a spare (in their backpack) every day. Our mask supply is very limited!

News From the Music Room

4th, 5th, and 6th grade students have been invited to Google Classrooms for Music. All they need to do is accept the invitation and they will be able to see the videos added from Music class. Great job sharing your talents and commercials!

Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness during teacher appreciation week! I love teaching all of you music! Have a wonderful summer - Mrs. Gazo

Roadrunners are Respectful, Responsible, & Kind

This month, our school wide theme is empathy. We’ll be reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect the same and different feelings, and show compassion. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.

You can extend this idea at home by talking about your own feelings and modeling empathy for others.
