Mountain View News Term 2 Week 4

What an amazing journey our school has had! From one class of 25 students in 1969 to over 700 students in Prep to Year 12 in 2019, Mountain View has a reputation for caring and quality Christian education.

Tomorrow we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the school and invite you to join us. The morning program is from 10 am to 12 pm, with a separate program for the children, and the afternoon program is from 2 – 4 pm, including cake and a hot drink. A number of students and staff, both present and past will be performing and speaking, and there will be visual displays of the school history in the morning program.

Each student has received a memento of the school: Prep to Year 4 a hat, Years 5 - 7 a cap, and Years 8 to 12 a tie. I hope they treasure this symbol of their school.

Come along and celebrate with us tomorrow!

Year 7 Mandatory Technology groups have rotated and a new group has started Agriculture. The students were busy last week preparing the chicken coops for winter and watering the Bush Tucker Garden. They seemed to enjoy the time outdoors and the manual labour. There is plenty of work still to be done so let’s hope they continue to enjoy it.

Year 8 is studying Chemistry this term in Science. Their practical work has explored the changes that occur during chemical reactions. They enjoyed seeing the colour changes that took place, the bubbles produced and heat emitted just by mixing 2 chemicals together. Chemistry is fun!

This event took place on Tuesday May 7th. All Yr 2-6 students ran 4 kms. The Cross Country event started at Joe McAleer Park, Glendenning and the students ran down the pathway in Western Sydney Parklands to the check point and then back up and did two loops and then sprinted to the finish line.

The Yr 2-4 students received their medallions on Wednesday in Chapel. The First and Second place getters received a certificate.

Some of the students who have qualified will be invited to attend the CSSA Zone Cross Country Event next Friday, May 31st at Sydney International Equestrian Centre.

On Wednesday 22nd May at 11am, Kindy H students joined in the National Simultaneous Storytime. They were part of the 1,062,230 participants across Australia and New Zealand to read the latest book by Matt Cosgrove titled 'Alpacas With Maracas'.

Every year the Australian Library and Information Association select a picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian author and illustrator, to read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes, bookshops and many other places around the country. The event aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Prep to Year 6.

As part of this event, Kindy H enjoyed making their own maracas which they used for dancing the cha cha to latin music and also learning about alpacas.

Isaiah in year 5 and Wesley-Jones in year 6 attended the CIS Primary Rugby Union Trails yesterday. They competed against 85 boys and both made it through to the next level. Well done!

Our Yr 12 students are embarking on their final semester at school. At this time of the year it can become stressful and filled with anxiety for the students as they try to stay focused, complete assessment tasks and study. This year we have started a Prayer Support program for each Yr12 student. This is a first for MVAC. Every student has been allocated a teacher mentor to support, encourage and pray for them. The mentors are available to help motivate, listen, give advice and especially pray for them.

The staff are excited about the program knowing that it can have a positive effect on the cohort. We are asking for your help as well. Pray regularly for our student body as a whole and especially for our Year 12’s as they head towards their Trial and HSC exams.

Last week the senior Prefects started taking Middle and Senior class worships during Roll Call. We are asking that each Thursday morning you pray for the prefects so that the students will be responsive to the message that is delivered to each class.

Please continue collecting the stickers when you shop at Woolworth’s and bringing them to the office to place them in the Earn and Learn boxes.

Carline family signs were handed out at the start of the year, please display this sign so the teachers can identify your car quickly and call your child/ren down to the cones so they are ready and waiting for you.
