Thank you, DDD! "Home Goods" donation drive

Your Generosity is Amazing!

"During the holiday season, the spirit of giving is infectious. But, it takes a special kind of person to give to the community after giving to family and friends.

"Part of being self directed is the ability to choose where you want to live. DDD is proud to offer affordable residential options to our members and their families." -- Maureen Casey, Assistant Director

In November, the DDD Housing, Engagement, Resource and Opportunity (HERO) unit announced a drive to collect donations of household items. The purpose: to provide basic home goods to help members with limited resources move into apartments made available through a collaboration of DDD with local, state and federal housing agencies.

We asked and you responded ... in a BIG way!

A treasure trove of household items!

Your care and support of our members is truly outstanding!

"We were overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness of all of the Division's employees. They truly reached into their hearts for this outpouring of gifts and donations for members and families in need. These donations give everyone a great start on their lives in their new apartments." -- Ileen Herberg, HERO Program Manager

Maricopa County Pitches In!

Adding to the many items collected throughout the drive, the Community Services Division of the Maricopa County Human Services Department donated nine "Life Startup Essentials" boxes. Each box includes a blow-up mattress, pots and pans, broom, mop, blanket, pillow, dishes, and knife block. Also included are a vacuum, bed sheets, kitchen utensils and bathroom supplies. Each "startup" box is valued at $250!

DDD's 1st Placement

One member, a 21-year old man who has cerebral palsy and epilepsy, was able to take advantage of an affordable housing option made available through the DDD HERO Program and the Housing Authority of Maricopa County. (See "DDD's HERO Program: Putting Members on the Path to Independence." -- on the DES Intranet.) Your donations helped to make this member's move to independence a success!

Thank you for helping DDD members succeed!
